PC DOCS ENHANCES AWARD WINNING DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT SOLUTION WITH LAUNCH OF
DOCS OPEN 3.0

Leading Open EDM Extends Scalability Across Enterprise and Beyond

AIIM Show Booth #543, Chicago, Illinois -- April 1, 1996 -- PC DOCS, Inc.,
a subsidiary of PC DOCS Group International Inc., and a leader in
enterprise document management solutions, today announced DOCS Open
Version 3.0. The new product offers major advances in document retrieval
and searching, enterprise administration, security, mobile workgroup
support, document sharing and publishing to groupware platforms and
Internet-based access capabilities.

DOCS Open 3.0 was unveiled today in booth number 543 at the AIIM show at
McCormick Place in Chicago.

DOCS Open (Document Organization & Control System) is a comprehensive
document management platform that is distinguished by its open
architecture, allowing easy access, manipulation, control and storage of
documents across heterogeneous computing environments.

"DOCS Open 3.0 dramatically enhances the way organizations can utilize and
deploy document management software," said Larry Bohn, Executive Vice
President and General Manager, PC DOCS, Inc. "Unlike competing products,
DOCS Open 3.0 fully addresses the needs of organizations with mixed
network and database environments through an open, multi-tiered
architecture. This product release reaffirms our commitment to managing
large enterprise EDM implementations. It also extends support beyond the
enterprise with revolutionary mobile workgroup functionality, expanded
groupware application integration and advanced Internet access
capabilities."

DOCS Open 3.0 supports the full range of database, networking, operating
system and hardware environments, enabling transparent integration of the
product within virtually any corporate computing infrastructure. The
product's multi-tiered architecture has enabled:

Enterprise Management Support: DOCS Open 3.0 is fully scalable
and flexible, offering extended multi-network support, comprehensive
and configurable document security and an expanded array of advanced
 document search and retrieval capabilities.

Extended Enterprise Architecture: No competing product matches
the new product's ability to deliver EDM functionality beyond
the enterprise - to teams of mobile users, to customers and business
partners networked via groupware applications, including Microsoft
Exchange and Lotus Notes, and for secure document management via
the Internet. In addition, the product supports integration of
multiple imaging and workflow products and it is ODMA compliant,
enabling integration with other document management solutions.

Advanced Search and Retrieval

DOCS Open 3.0 offers a more advanced searching interface as well as a
robust content search engine based on Verity technology. These
capabilities include relevancy ranking, proximity, phrase, sounds like and
fuzzy logic. In addition, Version 3.0 supports multiple index servers,
accommodating any enterprise's indexing requirements. And continuing PC
DOCS's commitment to open systems support, the new product is designed to
support multiple content retrieval engines.

Enterprise Administration

For organizations with mixed network environments, DOCS Open 3.0 simplifies
supporting different network user IDs across the enterprise with an
enterprise naming service that eliminates the complexities of multiple
log-ins required by other EDM applications.

Configurable Security

Only DOCS Open 3.0 offers a choice of document security methods. The new
Document Sentry Agent (DSA) is an optional 32-bit server module designed
for security-intensive environments, such as intelligence agencies and
highly regulated industries. The DSA creates a firewall between users and
documents. It resides on the document server and acts as a sentry granting
user document access one session at a time. At the session's end, all
activity performed on the document is recorded in a trusted audit trail
owned by the DSA. Because the audit trail is located behind the firewall,
it cannot be accessed or changed. In addition, DOCS Open 3.0 offers
Hierarchical Directory Service, which provides fully integrated security
with the network operating system and allows documents to be secured by
users, groups and organizational units.

DOCS Unplugged

DOCS Unplugged (formerly called DOCS Mobile) enhances PC DOCS's
award-winning mobile capabilities by providing better document access for
dial-in users. In addition, for on-site network users, DOCS Unplugged
provides complete EDM functionality if the corporate network becomes
inaccessible or goes down, offering a "fail-safe" capability. All
documents and document profile information are automatically stored - or
"shadowed" - at the user's desktop, ensuring automatic re-synchronization
and seamless access to DOCS Open documents.

Mobile Teams

Mobile Teams offers the industry's only remote workgroup EDM support. It
extends full document management functionality to remote workgroups that
need access to their enterprise's document libraries while working away
from the office, for example, audit teams or war rooms. In the Mobile
Teams configuration, one member of a peer-to-peer workgroup is designated
as the team's client/server and all other members are clients. The server
provides library access to the enterprise libraries, thus enabling
documents to be accessed and resynchronized as needed.

DOCS Interchange

To facilitate electronic publishing capabilities within a corporation and
beyond to customers and business partners, PC DOCS has expanded its DOCS
Interchange product family, offering DOCS Interchange for Microsoft
Exchange. Now, DOCS Open documents and document profile metadata can be
distributed to Microsoft Exchange folders.

The Interchange product family enables corporations to publish
document-based information electronically, using groupware products and
public networks, while still maintaining control and management of the
document life cycle within DOCS Open. The Interchange product family
includes DOCS Interchange for Microsoft Exchange and DOCS Interchange for
Lotus Notes.

Imaging and Workflow

With the introduction of the Image and Workflow Workbench (IWW) to the DOCS
Open architecture, Version 3.0 provides more extensive support for
integrating multiple imaging and workflow vendors. This takes the form of
an open API utilizing OLE automation, fully integrating imaging and
workflow technologies. This approach supports key industry standards,
including ODMA and MAPI Workflow Framework.

Internet Products

PC DOCS is building the enabling technology to leverage document management
on the Internet. Internet access capabilities from PC DOCS will provide
complete access to a DOCS repository from any Web browser, publishing DOCS
Open documents to a Web server, and utilizing encryption technology for
secure business-to-business document management.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for DOCS Open Release 3.0 remains unchanged, at $349 per user and
$795 per server. DOCS Interchange for Microsoft Exchange has a special
introductory price of $2,995 per server for a limited time. The Release
3.0 product line will be available this quarter.
