ON Technology Increases Platforms and Protocols Again For Industry's Most
Interoperable Group Scheduler

CAMBRIDGE, MASS., APRIL 1, 1996 -- ON Technology Corporation (Nasdaq: ONTC)
today announced new platforms and network protocols for its Meeting Maker
XP software, already the industry's most interoperable group scheduler.
The announcement was made simultaneously in Cambridge, Mass., and in Las
Vegas, Nevada, site of the Networld+Interop computer conference.

With the addition of a native 32-bit Unix server, Simple Mail Transport
Protocol (SMTP) support for linking group scheduling and electronic mail,
and new protocol support including TCP/IP and NetBIOS for OS/2 desktops,
Meeting Maker XP 3.5 provides flexibility for network configurations that
is unmatched by any other group scheduler on the market today.

Meeting Maker XP 3.5 also brings the full power of group scheduling to the
Apple MessagePad and Newton 2.0 operating system.

Meeting Maker XP 3.5 establishes a new benchmark for integrating group
scheduling across an enterprise or multi-enterprise environment based on
three tiers of interoperability: server platform, network protocol and
desktop platform. Meeting Maker XP 3.5 supports the following
environments:

SERVER PLATFORMS: Windows, Windows 95, Windows NT, Unix, OS/2, Macintosh,
PowerMac, NetWare NLM

NETWORK PROTOCOLS: TCP/IP, IPX, NetBIOS, AppleTalk

DESKTOP, LAPTOP AND MOBILE CLIENTS: Windows, Windows 95, Windows NT,
Macintosh, Newton, OS/2, Unix, DOS

"Most environments today, whether an enterprise, division or department,
have networks consisting of a variety of platforms and protocols," said
John Rizzi, vice president of sales, ON Technology. "There are very few
single platform, single protocol, single OS networks in the real world.
Our continuing expansion of the Meeting Maker XP family along the three
tiers of interoperability is designed to leverage networks and desktops
that enterprises have today, as well as the ones they might have next
year."

Various other enhancements are designed to simplify the administration and
use of Meeting Maker XP 3.5, such as an automatic upgrade utility and
address book creation and usage options.

RAISING THE STANDARD FOR CLIENT/SERVER SCHEDULING

Meeting Maker XP 3.5 offers the choice of using the Unix operating system
as the server platform for maximum scalability and performance. The
Meeting Maker XP Unix server is suited for organizations of all sizes,
from small departmental workgroups that may be familiar with Unix to large
or decentralized enterprises that can consolidate a number of existing
servers onto a single Unix box.

In addition to Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems Unix clients, a Meeting
Maker XP Unix server will support any combination of Meeting Maker XP
clients from a single server. Hardware options for a Unix server
configuration include the HP 700 or 800 series computers running HP UP
9.01 or greater, or any Sun Solaris-SPARC compliant computer running
Solaris 2.3 or greater.

To increase the interoperability of Meeting Maker XP clients connected
across an enterprise Intranet or the global Internet, Meeting Maker XP 3.5
now supports SMTP. Since version 3.0, Meeting Maker XP has supported the
Windows messaging standard, MAPI (Messaging Application Programming
Interface), which allowed users to send meeting proposals and
notifications via electronic mail as long as the sender had a
MAPI-compliant e-mail package.

By supporting SMTP, Meeting Maker XP 3.5 users can exchange meeting
proposals and notifications with anyone connected to a SMTP mail host,
such as a corporate Intranet or the global Internet, via a mail-enabled
Windows, Windows 95, Windows NT, Macintosh, Unix or OS/2 workstation.

The third major improvement in Meeting Maker XP 3.5 is designed
specifically for OS/2 users, who had little or no choice for group
scheduling until Meeting Maker XP 3.1 for OS/2 was introduced in September
1995. At that time, Meeting Maker XP for OS/2 was limited to IPX networks.
With support for the TCP/IP and NetBIOS protocols, the power of native,
32-bit OS/2 servers can be utilized by organizations where mixtures of
desktop clients and network protocols exist.

Meeting Maker XP 3.5 also brings the full capability of group scheduling to
the Apple MessagePad by providing a native Newton 2.0 package to
synchronize a user's desktop and their MessagePad 120 or 130 personal
digital assistant (PDA). Previously, users were able to export their
schedule to a Newton PDA but not change it. Now Meeting Maker XP Newton
Client users can change or create meetings on their Newton and later
re-synchronize with their desktop client from anywhere on the LAN.

Users also can carry their Meeting Maker XP 3.5 schedule on the Casio Boss,
Sharp Wizard or HP 100/LX or even wear it on a Timex Data Link Watch.

SIMPLIFYING UPGRADES AND ADDRESS BOOK USAGE

As Meeting Maker XP installations have grown in size since the product was
first introduced in 1991, with installations now ranging from a couple
dozen seats to thousands of seats, improving the efficiency of upgrading
clients and making it easier to invite people to meetings has been an
ongoing design goal. The Meeting Maker XP 3.5 administration program
includes enhancements that provide the option of managing many aspects of
the application at the department level.

For sites upgrading from previous versions of Meeting Maker XP, a new "Auto
Upgrade Utility" electronically distributes the new version to all users,
eliminating the need for the network administrator to perform conventional
software upgrade procedures. The new feature also allows system
administrators to partition their Meeting Maker XP installation so certain
user administration functions can be off- loaded on a server-by-server
basis while preserving overall system integrity and security.

Routine procedures such as adding or deleting users, adding or deleting
proxies, and modifying user groups also can now be done at the
departmental level with minimal training required.

Meeting Maker XP also has a number of enhancements for creating and using
the address book. On a network basis, the administrator can establish
Hierarchical Directories separated by department, building or geographical
location.

For the user, a new Personal Address List allows users to create
specialized lists of users with whom they frequently schedule meetings,
such as all members of their department, as well as particular rooms and
equipment they normally specify. With a new Quick Directory Search
feature, users can type in the meeting invitee's name instead of scrolling
through an alphabetical list, speeding up the selection process.
