Olicom Introduces Second Generation PCI Token-Ring Adapter

Includes enhanced support for switched Token-Ring environments

APRIL 22, 1996, COPENHAGEN, DENMARK -- Olicom (NASDAQ:OLCMF), a leading
supplier of high-performance networking solutions, today introduced the
Token-Ring PCI/II 16/4 adapter, a second-generation card that supports the
new Dedicated Token Ring standard and dramatically increases network
performance in switched Token-Ring environments.

Delivery of the PCI/II strengthens Olicom's front-running position in the
fastest growing segment in the Token-Ring adapter market. The company now
offers Token-Ring network managers the fastest, most reliable PCI solution
for servers and clients running CPU-intensive applications such as those
integrating voice and video. In switched Token-Ring environments, the
adapter provides an ideal solution for servers with full duplex
(simultaneous send and receive) connections and clients with dedicated,
full bandwidth network connections.

"The PCI bus is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways for network
managers to boost LAN productivity," said Erik Johannsen, Director of
Product Marketing at Olicom. "The first version of our Token-Ring PCI
adapter earned top market share worldwide in 1995 because of its
market-leading performance and high-reliability. With the release of the
Token-Ring PCI/II adapter, we're increasing performance and providing a
range of advantages, such as reduced network bottlenecks when used with
Token-Ring switching. We expect this will strengthen the significant
market share that this adapter already has."

The Token-Ring PCI/II 16/4 adapter combines an improved version of Olicom's
industry leading PowerMACH" technology, as well as an improved ASIC design
to maintain CPU utilization at an extremely low level. PowerMACH is the
same technology that has enabled Olicom's Token-Ring ISA adapter to be
rated No. 1 for more than a year in performance and price/performance in
PC Week's ongoing benchmark.

To deliver low cost-of-ownership, the adapter provides Plug and Play
installation and is fully compliant with all relevant industry standards,
including latest version of the PCI Local Bus Specification (revision
2.1), IEEE 802.5r for Dedicated Token-Ring, IEEE 802.2 and IEEE 802.5. The
adapter is fully compatible with IBM Token-Ring standards. It also
provides support for the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) and an SNMP
desktop agent.

Device driver support for the adapter is available for all major network
operating systems including Novell NetWare, IBM LAN Server and Windows NT
Advanced Server. It supports client systems based on DOS, OS/2, Windows
for Workgroups, Windows NT and Windows 95.

In switched Token-Ring, the Token-Ring PCI/II 16/4 adapter is ideal for
servers and clients running multitasking operating systems such as Windows
95, Windows NT, and OS/2. The Token-Ring PCI/II 16/4 adapter, with its low
CPU utilization and support of full-duplex operation, has the capacity to
handle the high throughput generated by multitasking operating systems and
the associated groupware applications. This helps reduce network
bottlenecks thereby increasing network speed.

Pricing/Availability

The Token-Ring PCI/II 16/4 Adapter (OC-3137) is currently shipping in
volume at a suggested retail price of US$325. The adapter includes a
lifetime warranty.
