NETSCAPE ANNOUNCES NETSCAPE MAIL SERVER 2.0 WITH ENHANCED PERFORMANCE,
SCALABILITY AND REMOTE CONNECTIVITY

OPEN, CROSS-PLATFORM ENTERPRISE MESSAGING SOLUTION FEATURES IMAP4 SUPPORT,
MAKING IT EASY FOR MOBILE USERS TO CONNECT REMOTELY TO THEIR EMAIL

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (April 22, 1996) -- Netscape Communications
Corporation (NASDAQ: NSCP) today announced Netscape Mail Server 2.0, next
generation open standards-based client-server messaging software that
provides superior performance, scalability and remote connectivity for
enterprise customers. Through support of the Internet Mail Access Protocol
(IMAP4), Netscape Mail Server 2.0 makes it easy for mobile users to access
their messages while away from the office. Netscape Mail Server is
seamlessly integrated with Netscape Navigator client software enabling
users to read and post electronic mail or administer the mail server
remotely on the network.

Offered individually or as part of Netscape SuiteSpot, Netscape Mail Server
2.0 features common server management and centralized network
administration with Netscape SuiteSpot servers simplifying management of a
corporate network. Featuring support for the Java and JavaScript
programming languages for creating, managing and deploying enterprise
applications on Intranets, Netscape SuiteSpot is an integrated suite of
cross-platform Web server software that brings the open standards of the
Internet to users on internal corporate networks.

"Too often companies using proprietary products for enterprise messaging
end up with incompatible messaging systems or a patchwork of gateway
solutions and problematic system administration," said Eric Hahn, senior
vice president of enterprise technology at Netscape. "Netscape Mail Server
2.0 is a native SMTP/IMAP/MIME messaging solution that interoperates with
other SMTP compliant messaging systems, providing faster, higher-quality
message delivery. It offers enterprise customers a robust,
high-performance corporate messaging backbone they can rely on."

Netscape Mail Server 2.0 is a full featured message transport engine built
on the open standards of the Internet. Its features include:

* Remote messaging support - Traveling employees attempting to access the
corporate network have often been overlooked in traditional messaging
solutions. Netscape Mail Server 2.0 supports remote and connected users
through the Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP4) specification (RFC1730).
It enables users to create, delete, and rename mailboxes, check for new
messages, permanently remove messages, search messages, and selectively
fetch messages while working off-line

* Seamlessly integrated with Netscape Navigator and many other messaging
clients to enable mail reading, posting and administration remotely on a
network

* Performance and scalability - Netscape Mail Server 2.0 delivers
performance that is several times greater and more scalable than
proprietary messaging systems. It can support several thousand users on an
appropriately configured server and outperforms many other file-sharing
and client-server messaging systems in its processing of messages, message
queue and directory lookups

* Security features - Through support for the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
3.0 protocol, Netscape Mail Server enables encrypted remote server
administration. Other security features include a dynamic single session
key that encrypts client passwords and client/server communications,
multiple levels of password protection, and administrator control over
which domains or hosts can send and receive email

* Open standards support - Netscape Mail Server conforms to the open
standards of the Internet, enabling wide interoperability with other mail
systems. Standards supported include HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
1.0, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Multipurpose Internet Mail
Extensions (MIME) for sending and receiving messages with rich content
types, Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP4) for remote connectivity
support, and Post Office Protocol (POP3) for broad interoperability with
email clients such as Zmail, Eudora Pegasus Mail, and Microsoft Exchange

* Intuitive server management - Netscape Mail Server setup and
administration are easy using HTML forms and the point-and-click user
interface of Netscape Navigator. Also, administrative costs are lowered by
allowing users to manage their own account information, including
passwords, auto-replies, and auto-forwarding.

Netscape Mail Server 2.0 is scheduled to be available for major UNIX
operating environments and Windows /Alpha NT in the second quarter of
1996. Pricing is expected to begin at $995. Final pricing will be
announced at the time of product release.
