Novell Upgrades LANalyzer For Windows to Offer High-End Performance in an
Affordable, Easy-to-Use Software Solution

Leading Network Analysis Solution Shows Significant Performance Increase
with Windows 95, Fully Supports NDS, and will be available in German and
Japanese

OREM, Utah -- April 8, 1996 -- In a move to bring the performance and
capabilities of high-end network analyzers to users who prefer an
affordable, software-based solution, Novell Inc. today announced a new
version of its market-leading LANalyzer for Windows. LANalyzer for Windows
2.2 combines affordability and ease-of-use with markedly improved
performance.

The performance increase comes with Windows 95 using a 32-bit client
environment and results in a 100 percent capture rate of traffic on 10Mbps
Ethernet and 16Mbps Token Ring segments, plus Windows 95-enabled
multi-tasking capabilities. Additionally, LANalyzer 2.2 offers full
support for Novell Directory Services (NDS) and expanded international
support. Running on Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 desktops, LANalyzer for
Windows 2.2 is a key component of Novell's strategy to enable a Smart
Global Network by providing access to network services from all major
client platforms.

"Our initial goal with LANalyzer for Windows was to bring the capabilities
of high-end analyzers to Novell's customers at an affordable price," said
Shelley Dougery, Novell's Director of Marketing, Management Products
Division. "With the new generation of operating systems and 32-bit
clients, the performance of hardware-based systems is finally available to
software-only analyzer users. This version of LANalyzer for Windows merges
the power of high-end analyzers with an easy-to-use interface and
advantageous pricing, making it an unbeatable value."

Key Features

Novell's LANalyzer for Windows 2.2 offers the following features and
benefits:

* Enhanced performance -- LANalyzer for Windows 2.2 provides significantly
enhanced performance when running on 32-bit clients, such as those
available from Novell and Microsoft. LANalyzer for Windows 2.2 supports
all current Novell clients (VLM 16 and Client32) and Microsoft's NDIS.
This offers users the broadest possible choice of interface cards.

* Full Novell Directory Services support -- LANalyzer for Windows 2.2
decodes all NDS frames and is NDS-enabled to allow users to gather station
names from anywhere in an NDS tree. The power of NDS enables LANalyzer for
Windows 2.2 users to map station addresses to user names on an
enterprise-wide basis.

* Multi-tasking capabilities -- LANalyzer for Windows 2.2 can run
simultaneously with other applications on Windows 95 workstations. It
eliminates the need for TSRs, freeing memory for other applications
usage.

* International support -- Japanese and German versions of LANalyzer for
Windows 2.2 will be available later this year, making it easier for
multinational corporations to coordinate global problem solving.

Product Background

LANalyzer for Windows is a complete monitoring and analysis tool for
troubleshooting Novell networks. Key features include an intuitive
dashboard interface, intelligent problem solving capabilities and built-in
interactive training in network diagnostic techniques. The product
monitors the network for anomalous events; decodes NetWare, SNA, TCP/IP
and AppleTalk traffic with additional decodes available from third
parties; and supports Ethernet and Token Ring at all wire speeds.

Since its introduction in 1992, LANalyzer for Windows has been ranked by
user surveys and competitive evaluations at or near the top of its class
in price/performance and ease of use. Initially designed to provide simple
and affordable basic NetWare LAN monitoring and analysis capabilities, the
product has achieved consistently high marks from internal IS departments
and independent service organizations, even when compared with network
analyzers costing 10 times as much.

The product is widely used by software developers who need a tool that
allows them to see how their applications behave on a production network.
With a price-point well below competing products, LANalyzer for Windows
has become the analyzer of choice among giant software companies and small
startups alike.

Pricing and Availability

LANalyzer for Windows 2.2 is available now through the Novell reseller
channel. List price is US$1,495. Current LANalyzer for Windows customers
can purchase an upgrade for US$300.
