Novell Affirms Commitment to Make GroupWise DMS Certified

DMS Certification Will Place GroupWise on the Department of Defense's
Approved Product List

OREM, Utah -- March 28, 1996 -- Novell, Inc. today announced that
GroupWise, Novell's advanced messaging system, will undergo Defense
Messaging System (DMS) certification testing in accordance with the
Department of Defense certification process. Department of Defense policy
makers have established a "dual track" acquisition strategy for DMS
products -- products included in the Loral Acquisition Contract, as well
as products that are not a part of the Acquisition Contract, such as
GroupWise, are eligible for DMS certification and approval for purchase by
government agencies within the Department of Defense.

"Any messaging product that is certified as DMS compliant by government
approved testing will qualify for DMS use," said Emmett Paige, assistant
secretary of defense for command, control, communications and
intelligence. "Further, it is not mandatory for messaging products to be
part of the Loral contract in order to be considered for purchase by the
Department of Defense. The Loral team will be the first products to be
tested, providing they maintain their schedule, but others will follow
them closely and we expect that the Novell GroupWise product will be one
of them."

"DMS compliancy requires a rigorous battery of testing which ensures
upgraded security processes, improved interoperability, and enhanced X.400
capabilities and X.500 directory services. Once GroupWise has been tested
and certified to be DMS compliant, it will be completely accessible to
federal agencies for purchase," said Tom Clarke, program manager for DMS
within the Department of Defense.

GroupWise has won support from a number of government agencies including
divisions of the Air Force, Navy, Army, FBI, the House of Representatives
and the Department of Justice. Mel Stanley, Novell master license
agreement manager, of Hill Air Force Base said, "Our agency chose
GroupWise for its ease-of-use, advanced messaging, seamless integration
into the network and office environment and for its Universal In Box. Once
GroupWise becomes DMS compliant, we look forward to military messaging and
DMS access."

Another primary goal of DMS, as deemed by the Department of Defense, is to
foster the use of flexible, advanced messaging solutions that leverage
existing network investments. Once GroupWise is DMS certified, Novell will
be in a unique position. Since there are approximately one million Novell
NetWare users in the Department of Defense, GroupWise with DMS
certification will present the Department of Defense and other government
agencies with a key messaging solution and DMS messaging strategy, that
preserves their current network investment.

Once DMS certification is established, GroupWise will integrate command and
control messaging, offer DMS secured E-mail, FORTEZZA security, DMS access
and military messaging in formats required by DMS. Additional features of
GroupWise that DMS users will benefit from include integrated E-mail,
calendaring, scheduling, faxing, Internet messaging, task management and
the Universal In Box. The Universal In Box enables users to access
information in a single user environment. For more information on
GroupWise and DMS, government agencies can call (703) 713-3500.
