MICROTEST ENHANCES CD-ROM NETWORKING SERVER SOLUTIONS

Powerful Installable File System and New Lower Pricing Announced.

(March 28, 1996, Phoenix) Microtest Inc. (NASDAQ: MTST), today announced
significant enhancements to its family of CD-ROM server software,
including a powerful Installable File System (IFS) for NetWare. The
product line has been expanded and new lower pricing has been established.
A new product has been added to the line of enterprise server CD-ROM
solutions; CD-NOW! (without NetWare) is available as a single user license
and extends CD-ROM networking services on an existing Novell NetWare
fileserver.

The CD-NOW! family software instantly transforms PCs into the
highest-performance, highest-capacity CD-ROM servers available on the
market today, giving users instant access to hundreds of titles. The
product family is designed for businesses and organizations where instant
access to CD-ROM titles is critical. The CD-NOW! product family was
designed to support local area network (LAN) administrators and
information systems (IS) managers in organizations who are sharing CD-ROMs
on a regular basis and want centralized control. System integrators who
recommend CD-ROM products and solutions to end user organizations can also
benefit from using CD-NOW! The family is fully compatible with all CD-ROM
formats, jukeboxes, LUN expanders, NetWare versions and protocols.

CD-NOW! (without NetWare built in) is now available giving LAN
administrators and IS managers the ability to install CD-NOW! on an
existing NetWare fileserver on their network. CD-NOW! with NetWare
whichcomes with NetWare 4.1 built in (supports NetWare 3.x and higher) was
introduced Spring, 1995. Both products in the family now feature
Microtest's IFS technology which:

1. Limits the amount of memory needed to mount CDs. Now, as little as 6K of
RAM per CD (as opposed to up to 1 MB) is needed to mount, minimizing the
hardware investment necessary. Now, hundreds of volumes can be mounted on
a low-end (16 MB) server.

2. Provides dynamic security. Security is now volume-centric rather than
drive-centric. This means that security parameters are associated with the
CD-ROM titles themselves rather than with the drives.

3. Provides dynamic volume configuration. CD-NOW! provides a method for
CD-ROMs to be added to a volume set without taking the volume off-line
while keeping the users on-line.

4. Optimizes the mount process. The mounting process has been optimized,
giving users the ability to automatically detect, configure and mount CDs
automatically with the insertion of a CD-ROM.

5. Provides greater flexibility. The CD-NOW! family is DVD-ROM ready with
tiered caching capability and control over hybrid CDs. This means that
there is a clear migration path forward to include new CD-ROM
technologies.

"With CD-NOW! I can load a CD and mount it in a matter of seconds, instead
of minutes, and it's there and ready for my users--transparently," said
Rick Goforth, computer specialist, North Carolina National Guard. "After
setting up the SmartLaunch feature, users can easily access data. Mapping
drives and setting parameters is transparent to them. They just open up
the SmartLaunch window, choose the icon and access the information. With
the volume-centric security feature of CD-NOW!, I can assign security to
an entire volume set without having to assign rights to each individual
member of the set, which reduces the time I spend on security by 75%."

"We see superior performance, faster installation, wider compatibility and
automated management functions as key reasons why CD-NOW! is superior to
other CD-ROM sharing solutions currently available," said Ann Damiano,
manager of product marketing. "It is the highest capacity, highest
performance CD-ROM server software available today. Now, with IFS
technology, the CD-NOW! family provides users with immediate access to
hundreds of CD-ROM titles while minimizing hardware investment. IFS has
allowed us to reduce server RAM requirements for CD-ROMs from thousands of
kilobytes per disc to less than 10 kilobytes."

CD-NOW! Now Available at a Lower Price

The price on CD-NOW! with NetWare has been lowered. The U.S. list price for
CD-NOW! with NetWare is $695 for a 25-user license (new); $995 for a
50-user license (formerly $1,495); $1,695 for a 100 user license (formerly
$2,495); $2,495 for a 250-user license (formerly $3,995); $4,295 for a
500-user license (formerly $6,995); and $7,595 for a 1,000 user license
(formerly $9,995). Expansion kits are now available. The price structure
for the expansion kits is: $395 for 25 user; $695 for 50 user; $895 for
100 user; and $1,995 for 250 user.

CD-NOW! (without NetWare built in) is available as a single user license
only for $595. Both CD-NOW! and CD-NOW! with NetWare will be available
second quarter through a worldwide network of Microtest authorized
distributors and resellers.

The CD-NOW! family comes with DiscView PRO which permits users to manage
CD-ROM resources through a graphical Windows user interface. SmartLaunch,
a feature of DiscView PRO, automatically prepares CD-ROM titles so users
can access them, and functions as a transparent user interface shielding
users from network and CD-ROM complexities.
