Microsoft Garners Multiple Awards at RetailVision Trade Show

Retailers Honor Key Products, Channel Strategy

REDMOND, WASH. - APRIL 16, 1996 - Microsoft Corp. was the big winner at the
annual Millennium Awards presentation, held April 12 in Los Angeles as
part of RetailVision, a biannual trade show attended by retailers of
technology, multimedia products, and entertainment hardware and software.
Microsoft won four awards, more than any other vendor. More than 4,000
retailers vote on the Millennium Awards before the event.

Microsoft received awards in both the product and retail service
categories. The latter awards included Vendor of the Year, for overall
retail strategy and support, and the Millennium Vision Award, honoring
Microsoft's contributions toward the future growth of the computer
retailing industry. Two MicrosoftR products also garnered Millennium
Awards: Microsoft Office for the WindowsR 95 operating system, for
Productivity Software, and Microsoft EncartaR 96 Encyclopedia, for
Educational Multimedia Software.

"We are extremely pleased to receive these awards," said Ed Belleba,
director of retail strategy and services at Microsoft. "What makes the
Millennium Awards special is that they are voted by retailers - the people
who actually help consumers find the best products for their needs. Their
votes reflect their perceptions not only of the quality of Microsoft
products, but also of our ongoing efforts to provide retailers with the
best possible merchandising, service and support programs."

This show marked the second consecutive year Microsoft has won the Vendor
of the Year award. "The fact that retailers have voted Microsoft a Best
Vendor twice in a row is even more gratifying," Belleba added. "We
recognize how important retailers are to Microsoft's overall marketing
efforts, and we will continue to focus on doing the right things to
strengthen our retail relationships."
