Bill Gates Announces Microsoft Exchange; Outlines Microsoft's Vision For
Business Computing

Microsoft Booth Highlights Internet Kiosk, Scalability Wall

LAS VEGAS - APRIL 2, 1996 - As a part of his NetWorld+Interop '96 keynote
address, Bill Gates today announced that Microsoft Exchange Server is
shipping and demonstrated Microsoft Corp.'s vision for business
communications and computing over the Internet.

Microsoft Exchange Server includes e-mail and built-in groupware to allow
group scheduling, discussion databases and document sharing, for users to
view and share information stored in public folders. In addition, it
enables system administrators to monitor and troubleshoot a corporation's
entire messaging system - including Internet connections and usage - from
a single workstation.

Microsoft is demonstrating two Internet-based public kiosks in its booth,
providing one-stop access to information about Microsoft Exchange, the
Microsoft BackOffice family of products and all other information on the
Microsoft home page on the World Wide Web. The Microsoft kiosks, running
on the Windows NT Workstation operating system, are tied via ISDN lines to
the Internet where they access Windows NT Server systems running Microsoft
Internet Information Server and Microsoft BackOffice at Microsoft's
Redmond, Wash., campus.

The Scalability Wall showcases the scalability, performance and stability
of Microsoft Exchange and the hardware it supports while simulating more
than 10,000 simultaneous Microsoft Exchange connections on a single
server. Other booth highlights include 26 Microsoft Exchange partners, two
Windows NT Server-based stations, and demos running Microsoft Internet
Information Server, Internet Assistant, Microsoft Internet Explorer and
FrontPage along with applications from Internet partners. The Network
Operations Center (NOC), which is the backbone of the InteropNet
conference network, is also running on Microsoft BackOffice and Windows NT
Server. Microsoft was recognized as a Silver-level InteropNet contributor
based on the value of products and labor it donated to the NOC InteropNet
team.
