Avid and mFactory Announce Intent to Co-Develop Avid Interactive Media
Studio

Companies Announce Process-Based Environment For Interactive Multimedia
Production

Las Vegas, Nev. (April 14, 1996) -- At the 1996 National Association for
Broadcasters Conference (NAB), Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVID) and
mFactory, Inc. announced their intention to collaboratively create and
market the Avid Interactive Media Studio, a tightly-integrated production
environment for developing and distributing interactive multimedia
content. According to the agreement, the Avid Interactive Media Studio
will provide a start-to-finish, multi-platform environment utilizing
Avid's expertise in digital media creation and editing and mFactory's
cross-platform, interactive authoring software, resulting in a powerful
tool for creators of professional interactive content.

Avid's expertise in developing award-winning technology for digital
nonlinear video editing, audio editing and graphics creation - such as
Media Composer, MCXpress for Macintosh and Windows NT, AudioVision, Pro
Tools, Matador Sprite and Elastic Reality - along with mFactory's
object-oriented, interactive authoring software, mTropolis, will provide
the necessary suite of tools to support the editing, authoring, and
distribution requirements of professional interactive content creation and
development.

"mFactory's strategy is to excel in interactive authoring technology and to
align closely with the best-of-breed products in the element and content
creation areas," explained Anu Shukla, Chief Operating Officer of
mFactory, Inc. "Therefore, it is important that we pick the right
strategic partnerships and work in tight collaboration to make them
successful. We believe that Avid has the best position and products in
digital video media creation and editing."

In addition to offering interactive content developers a suite of powerful
and professional tools - all of which are currently available and are
being showcased at NAB '96 - Avid and mFactory will work together to
address common issues in the current interactive multimedia development
process including media management and media interchange between
applications. Using the Open Media Framework (OMF) Interchange as a means
of exchanging media files between editing and authoring applications, Avid
and mFactory will provide developers a seamless method of exchanging
digital media files and compositions between their respective products.

According to Bob Sullivan, Avid's vice president of business development
and marketing, "Our customers are extremely interested in developing and
creating interactive programming for CD-ROM, digital video disk (DVD), and
the Internet. The same strategies which we have undertaken to deliver
process-oriented solutions for film, video and broadcast will now apply to
professional interactive content creation, heavily drawing upon our
experience in digital media creation, asset management, networking and
distributed workflow. We believe that mFactory's mTropolis product
represents the latest state-of-the-art interactive authoring environment
and that this partnership is complimentary to our goals. We are looking
forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership with mFactory."

Visitors to Avid's NAB booth will have the opportunity to see an integrated
process-based demonstration using Avid's MCXpress digital video editing
solution and mFactory's mTropolis authoring package to create an
interactive title. The start-to-finish demonstration, based on
Activision's upcoming Muppets Treasure Island interactive game, will show
how multimedia content can be created and edited in MCXpress, tracked
using Avid's media management technology, authored using mTropolis, and
distributed via CD-ROM and the World Wide Web.

A complete suite of media creation and authoring products including Media
Composer, MCXpress for Macintosh and Windows NT, Matador Sprite, Pro Tools
and mTropolis is currently available through Avid's worldwide distribution
channel.
