SAN JOSE, Calif. -- April 24, 1996 -- Maxtor Corp. has teamed with SYMANTEC
CORP. (NASDAQ: SYMC) to offer the popular Norton Utilities software free
with the purchase of a Maxtor 2.0 GB hard disk drive.

For a limited time, a CD-ROM containing the Norton Utilities 8.0 is
packaged free inside Maxtor's 2.0 GB retail upgrade kit. The CD-ROM has a
retail value of $120 and contains complete versions for both Windows 3.1
and Windows 95.

Maxtor's 2.0 GB Enhanced IDE drive is the latest addition to its family of
desktop hard drives designed to meet today's demanding storage capacity
requirements. The retail upgrade kit includes everything end users need to
install a new hard disk quickly and easily.

The Norton Utilities 8.0 keeps computer systems running at their peak.
Version 8.0 features new Windows configuration utilities and background
Windows Speed Disk and Disk Doctor to make the Norton Utilities the only
comprehensive solution for advanced information recovery, protection and
diagnostics.
