LOTUS ANNOUNCES LOTUS NOTESVIEW 4.0

GRAPHICAL TOOL ENABLES CENTRALIZED MANAGEMENT OF LOTUS NOTES NETWORKS

LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 2, 1996 -- Lotus Development Corp. today announced
Lotus NotesView 4.0, a graphical management tool that makes it easier for
Notes Network Administrators to control and monitor Lotus Notes networks.
NotesView 4.0 is the first tool to provide centralized, real-time
management of enterprise Notes networks, including support for the
enhanced administration and management features of Lotus Notes Release 4,
such as the administrative control panel, mail tracing and Web retriever
requests made by the InterNotes Web Navigator.

NotesView 4.0 also supports existing Notes Release 3 facilities to allow
administrators to leverage existing systems and ease their migration to
Release 4. In addition, NotesView 4.0 allows monitoring of other aspects
of the Notes messaging environment through support of the Lotus Notes
Message Transfer Agents (MTAs) for SMTP/MIME, X.400 and cc:Mail (See
"Lotus Notes MTAs Enter Widespread Field Test," 4/2/96). NotesView is
unique in its ability to enable network administrators to manage and
control their company's messaging, groupware and Internet infrastructure
from a single, integrated, easy-to-use environment.

"NotesView 4.0 brings the current graphical, centralized management
capabilities for Notes to the next level," said Steve Sayre, Vice
President of Corporate Marketing, Lotus Development Corp. "With the
hundreds of enhancements to Notes Release 4 in administration, scalability
and Internet integration, a tool like NotesView is invaluable to customers
to manage their entire Notes environment."

EXPLOITING THE POWER OF NOTES RELEASE 4

NotesView Release 1.0 for the Notes Release 3 environment provided
administrators with the ability to monitor and control Notes Servers and
gain real-time access to Notes network information from one or
decentralized, multiple management stations. NotesView Release 4.0 updates
those capabilities to monitor features that create the performance
improvements, such as multiple replicators and the single copy object
store, as well as the administration tools introduced in Notes Release 4.
Some of the new NotesView 4.0 features that are specific to managing the
Notes Release 4 environment include:

* CONTROL OVER THE SINGLE COPY OBJECT STORE - To reduce the number of
copies of a message needed, Notes Release 4 implements a single copy
object store that stores a message once and provides recipients with
pointers for access. NotesView has the ability to monitor the current size
of the object store, the percentage used, the number of items with
multiple links, as well as execute a purge.

* SERVER PASSTHRU MONITORING - Notes' Server Passthru feature designates
one server to be a point of entry to the network allowing a user or
administrator to access any server on the network, regardless of location
or network protocols. NotesView has the ability to display which servers
have Passthru capabilities and what remote servers the Passthru server can
access. In addition NotesView can determine which groups and users have
access through the Passthru server.

* ACCESS TO ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL PANEL - Notes Release 4 provides a
single graphical console to perform many administrative tasks such as
managing users and groups, as well as viewing message logs and managing
several servers simultaneously. NotesView has the ability to launch the
Administrative Control Panel and through that, manipulate and change the
configuration of Notes Servers.

* MONITORING OF ADMINISTRATIVE AGENTS - Notes Release 4 implements
administrative agents to, for example, make all necessary changes to user
names in server access groups, groups and access control lists (ACLs) when
needed. NotesView provides notification if the agent fails.

* REPLICATOR CONTROL - Notes Release 4 implements multiple replicators that
can perform simultaneous replication over a number of servers. NotesView
has the ability to view the status of multiple replicators. In addition,
NotesView has capabilities for:

* JOB SCHEDULER ACTIVITY - NotesView has the ability to display when the
next scheduled mail routing and replication cycles will occur.

* DATABASE ACTIVITY - NotesView has the ability to monitor replication
activity, reads, writes, and usage since last reboot.

HARNESSING THE POWER OF THE INTERNET

In addition to the enhanced administration and management features in Notes
Release 4, NotesView 4.0 can also access and manage the InterNotes Web
Navigator. The InterNotes Web Navigator adds browser functionality to the
Notes client allowing users to search and retrieve content from the World
Wide Web with all links intact, incorporate it into the Notes environment,
and share it with others through the collaborative power of Notes,
including caching for mobile and disconnected use. NotesView 4.0 enables
administrators to monitor and control Web retriever tasks including
tracking the number of HTTP, Gopher, and FTP requests. It also can
quantify the load received or sent per hour; the URL requests that have
failed or succeeded; and it can start or stop the Web retriever task.

MANAGING THE EXTENDED REACH OF THE LOTUS NOTES MTA'S

NotesView 4.0 also expands its monitoring capability beyond the Notes
network through support of the Lotus Notes MTAs. The Lotus Notes MTAs
provide extended messaging connectivity to the Internet (SMTP/MIME) and
X.400-based enterprise messaging systems for Lotus Notes and Lotus
cc:Mail. NotesView 4.0 can monitor the status of the MTA mail routers, the
total mail delivered, and the average delivery time. In addition,
NotesView 4.0 incorporates usability enhancements and expanded platform
support for the SNMP and Mail Reflector server agents. The agents now run
on OS/2, Windows NT, NetWare, HP-UX, AIX and Solaris. In the future,
NotesView 4.0 also will provide support for IBM's SystemView for AIX.
