Intel Announces Availability of the Pentium Processor for Special
Environments

Synchronous Flash Memory and High Performance Microcontroller Also
Available

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Apr. 15, 1996 -- Intel Corporation announced today the
availability of several versions of the Pentium processor, the 28F016XS
16-Mbit synchronous flash memory and the MCSR 251 microcontroller for the
defense, industrial and special environment market segments. All three
products are QML-qualified (Qualified Manufacturers Listing) and provide
leading-edge commercial technology to the military and special environment
markets.

Pentium Processor

The Pentium processor is the highest performance processor Intel offers to
the military and special environment market segments. Customers using the
Intel Architecture can increase their performance substantially by
upgrading to the Pentium processor without re-writing code. The Pentium
processor, which has been designed to operate at 3.3 volts, is available
at speeds of 100, 120 and 133MHz.

The Pentium processor's dual pipelines, multiple execution units and high
external clock speeds make it attractive for applications such as advanced
military electronic systems.

Specifically, Intel's Pentium processor can be found in warfare,
transportation GPS, communication, and industrial applications. The
Pentium processor's high throughput capability is beneficial in C4I
applications including data terminals, digital video and high bandwidth
data processing and transmission.

28F016XS Flash Memory

Intel is expanding its high-density, high-performance flash memory family
for the industrial and military markets. Designed for extreme temperatures
(-55C to +125C and -40C to +125C), the 28F016XS is housed in a 56-lead
SSOP (shrink, small outline package). The 28F016XS has a synchronous
pipelined interface and x8/x16 architecture that allows it to interface
with today's burst bus processors with minimal glue logic, providing
effective zero wait-state read performance of up to 25MHz.

The 28F016XS provides designers with a flexible, non-volatile alternative
to traditional ROM/SRAM memory systems, slow rotating media or battery
backed memory arrays. Applications that the 28F016XS can be found in are
flight recorders, aircraft black boxes, solid state drives and solid state
recorders.

87C251SB Microcontroller

In February 1995, Intel introduced the MCSR 251 microcontroller, the first
controller based on its next generation 8-bit architecture. Today, the
87C251SB microcontroller is now available for the defense, industrial and
special environment markets. The 87C251SB is a drop- in replacement for
the military 87C51FB and FC microcontrollers. When using existing code,
the 87C251SB can provide performance improvement of up to 5x; with new
code, the device offers up to 15 times the performance of MCS 51
microcontrollers.

The 87C251SB microcontroller is attractive for existing MCS 51
microcontroller applications that need high performance upgrades. The
87C251SB microcontroller can also be used in aircraft instrumentation,
hand-held military radios, and other special environment applications.
