EDS' dbIntellect Technologies and Informix Form Strategic Relationship

MENLO PARK, CALIF. (APRIL 8, 1996) -- Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ:
IFMX) the leading provider of parallel processing database technology,
today announced that EDS' dbINTELLECT (dbI) Technologies division is
integrating Informix's parallel database servers with dbI's Database
Marketing tool kit, to allow dbINTELLECT to work with companies possessing
some of the world's largest customer databases.

EDS' dbINTELLECT is porting its Database Marketing tool kit to Informix's
Dynamic Scalable Architecture (DSA) family of parallel processing database
servers, including INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server and INFORMIX-Extended
Parallel Server (OnLine XPS). Customers will be able to take advantage of
DSA's core internal parallel technology which is needed for managing large
amounts of data in a data warehouse.

"A key factor in our decision to select Informix was the proven performance
and scalability inherent in its DSA products," said Pete Esteler,
president of dbINTELLECT. "Our customers require high performance for
decision support applications and the ability to support large scale
databases. Informix's DSA architecture enables us to deliver this
capability to our customers."

Further, dbINTELLECT will resell Informix's database servers as part of its
database marketing and data warehouse solutions. Informix will utilize
dbINTELLECT consultants to assist Informix customers in the implementation
of large-scale database applications.

"Customers are looking for high-performance data warehousing solutions that
can scale to meet their future needs," said Kathy Gogan, vice president of
industry and partner marketing at Informix. "Informix and dbINTELLECT have
partnered to provide best-in-class solutions that are designed to take
full advantage of very large databases (VLDB) and multi-terabyte data
warehouse applications."

DSA AND DATA WAREHOUSING

Relational database management is a key component in a data warehouse
implementation. Data warehouses require manageability of large volumes of
data, scalability, performance and online analytical processing (OLAP).

Informix's high-performance DSA, is the foundation upon which OnLine
Dynamic Server and OnLine XPS are built. OnLine Dynamic Server addresses
uniprocessor and SMP hardware environments; OnLine XPS is architected for
cluster and MPP hardware architectures. Both products provide core
internal parallel technology which includes features such as data
partitioning, parallel query, parallel loading and indexing, and dynamic
system management --critical to data warehousing environments.

DBINTELLECT'S DATABASE MARKETING ARCHITECTURE AND TOOLKIT

The toolkit, a set of client/server database software tools, cumulatively
creates an integrated data mobilization and information discovery
environment, leveraging high performance computing platforms to deliver
database marketing solutions to support customer-focused companies. The
Transaction Engine architecture provides the flexibility, scalability,
extensibility and portability that improves both responsiveness to market
needs and customization for competitive advantage. The strength of the
architecture provides the opportunity to incorporate data mobilization
tools such as transformation, name and address hygiene, matching, and
merge/purge. On the information discovery side, the decision support tools
include modules focused on statistical analysis, modeling, data
visualization and the integration of third party tools.
