HYPERION OLAP NOW COMMERCIAL

COMPETITIVELY AHEAD ON PERFORMANCE IN LARGE-SCALE APPLICATIONS, PLUS
ABILITY TO UNCOUPLE FROM SERVER

STAMFORD, Conn., April 19, 1996 -- Hyperion Software (NASDAQ: HYSW)
announced today the commercial release of Hyperion OLAP, the first
client/server software application that advances current on-line
analytical processing (OLAP) technology from its niche as a tool into a
software application with built-in business intelligence.

The new product features a powerful underlying OLAP engine, licensed from
TM1 Software, with advantages not offered today by current market leaders,
such as the ability for users to uncouple from the server and superior
performance in large-scale applications.

Hyperion OLAP provides high-volume, high-performance analysis capabilities
to the primary market driving OLAP sales: finance departments in large
corporations, the heart of Hyperion Software's business. "With Hyperion
OLAP, we have created a complete application solution for complex business
analysis," said Charles Cho, senior director of Hyperion's advanced
applications group. "Smart dimensions incorporate account, time and
currency intelligence. Hyperion OLAP immediately processes complex
questions, and provides analysis for 'what if' scenarios. While
competitors are announcing third-party OLAP relationships and plans to
develop and market analytical applications, Hyperion has released a fully
integrated OLAP product." For example, a large French retailer recently
used Hyperion OLAP's beta version to determine the top 50 customers in its
market. The company needed to analyze 14 dimensions of data that had more
than 17 million possible combinations using a 90 megahertz Pentium with 20
megabytes of RAM. Hyperion OLAP consolidated the data, sorted the results
and printed reports all in eight minutes.

Hyperion OLAP also includes powerful production reporting, flexible data
input mechanisms and intelligent drill-downs in a spreadsheet environment
familiar to financial users. Additional features include:

oFast application development: drag and drop graphical application
building, and maintenance with graphical rule definition, application
wizards and templates;

o "Remote" business analysis: the option of being uncoupled from the server
is a distinct advantage for satellite operations and traveling staff;

o Robust data loading capabilities: including custom data source profiles,
comprehensive open database connectivity (ODBC) support and data
translation capabilities;

o Instant calculation on demand: does not require the large disk space
leading competitors require to store pre-calculated data and is a better
choice for dynamic environments;

o Performance advantages: since Hyperion OLAP calculates on demand, it has
advantages over leading competitors' disk-based technology that require
calculating the entire "cube" all at once;

o Fully customizable desktop;

o Task security and data security;

o Remote analysis: high-performance wide-area network (WAN) access to
data.

Combined with Hyperion's common data access functionality, Hyperion OLAP
allows customers to use the same Hyperion reporting and analysis modules
available with other Hyperion applications, maximizing users' investment
in Hyperion products.

Hyperion OLAP is available for $60,000 per server, 10 users, or as part of
the company's new "Hyperion CFO" integrated financial offering, also
announced today in a separate press release.

"Hyperion OLAP completely redefines the business benefit available from
packaged OLAP applications," said Manny Perez, TM1's chief technical
officer and founder. "Hyperion has put into the product their prowess and
years of expertise in serving the needs of the financial applications
market. TM1 Software contributed the superior, scaleable, distributed
architecture, and hyper compact, dynamic performance of the TM1 engine."
