Hummingbird Announces First 3-D Capable PC X Server for Windows NT

Exceed 3D for Windows NT Enables High-End OpenGL Applications to be
Displayed and Developed on Windows NT

NORTH YORK, ONTARIO, CANADA, APRIL 2, 1996 - Hummingbird Communications
Ltd., the worldwide technology and marketshare leader in PC X server
software, announces the first PC X server to support OpenGL, the industry
standard graphics software interface developed by Silicon Graphics, Inc.,
with which programmers create high-end still and animated 3-D color
images. Exceed 3D, which implements the GLX extension for OpenGL,
complements Hummingbird's award-winning Exceed 5 for Windows NT PC X
server software, enabling customers to display OpenGL based two- and
three-dimensional graphics applications running on UNIX workstations
across the internetwork, on Windows NT based personal computers. Also,
with Hummingbird's Exceed 5 XDK for Windows NT, the Exceed 3D package
allows users to develop OpenGL applications on Windows NT workstations.

Exceed 3D for Windows NT includes the OpenGL implementation for X Windows,
called GLX, and provides a full suite of GLX libraries and tools required
for developing three-dimensional OpenGL applications on Windows NT systems
with Hummingbird's X Development Toolkit for Windows NT. Exceed 3D for
Windows NT supports the OpenGL version 1.0 and GLX version 1.1, and has
been enhanced to support simultaneous multi-visuals enabling discrete 3-D
applications to be displayed in True Color or pseudocolor. Exceed 3D
supports the RGBA and color index modes in all video devices, including
True Color 16 and 32 bit color video cards, and overloaded extended
visuals to support OpenGL extended attributes such as double and single
buffer.

Said Barry Litwin, Executive Vice President of Research and Development at
Hummingbird, "Many of our customers are discovering the power of OpenGL
for three-dimensional modeling for everything from CAD/CAM to computer
animation, and the 32-bit multithreaded architecture of Windows NT makes
it a logical platform for GLX development and distribution. We developed
Exceed 3D to enable our customers to leverage their investment in hardware
and software, and to give many more users access to high end 3-D
applications."

Exceed 3D is compatible with Windows NT workstation version 3.51 and is
sold as an extension to Hummingbird's Exceed 5 for Windows NT and Exceed 5
XDK for Windows NT. Available in May, 1996, Exceed 3D is priced at US$195.
Site licensing is available.
