NETWORLD+INTEROP, LAS VEGAS, NV APRIL 2, 1996 Hummingbird Communications
Ltd. (TSE: "HUM" and NASDAQ: "HUMCF"), the worldwide technology and market
leader in the PC to UNIX integration software industry, today placed
Version 1.0 of its advanced Intranet desktop Columbus on the Internet for
free evaluation and use. Columbus is a highly functional, seamlessly
integrated Microsoft Windows application designed to provide easy access
to organizational Intranets and the Internet. Columbus offers extensive
administrative capabilities and DigitalPaper, an advanced portable
electronic document technology not available in competing products.
Available for the next 90 days from the company's Web site at
http://www.hummingbird.com, Columbus Version 1.0 is a fully-functional
product with all features enabled and no expiration date.

According to Fred Sorkin, Chairman, President, and CEO of Hummingbird,
"We're placing Columbus on the Internet for free to reach the early
adopters who are critical to the growth of the Intranet market. We're sure
that they will discover that Columbus is a highly functional application
that not only makes enterprise information resources easily accessible and
manageable, but also addresses information management, document
distribution, and collaboration."

Columbus promotes efficient individual and group information access by
seamlessly integrating a wide range of protocols and Internet tools into a
single application, including a World Wide Web browser with Gopher
capabilities, advanced Web-friendly email, drag and drop FTP application,
Telnet and News reader clients, and the NetBook application to organize
the resources accessed with them. Columbus' intelligent Gather agent with
built-in indexing enables users to automatically capture entire Web
documents, and store them on their hard disks for offline searching and
access. The Columbus Personal Web Server enables users to share
directories, files, documents, from their desktop without degrading
network security. The Activity Manager, Scheduler, and integrated System
Monitor give users total control of all activities, enabling the computer
to perform complex tasks after hours.

To help managers focus user activities on organizational goals, Columbus
features extensive administrative capabilities that permit the
installation, configuration, and management of every desktop from a
central server. Server based templates allow administrators to manage user
activities by type and time of day, enabling them to reduce the network
impact of desktop Intranet and Internet access.

The advanced DigitalPaper technology integrated into Columbus delivers a
natural, low-cost approach to collaborative authoring and document sharing
on the Intranet. DigitalPaper promotes the creation, sharing, and
management of documents by allowing the use of familiar Windows
applications to create portable, hypertext documents, and enables legacy
documentation to be easily converted for enterprise-wide distribution and
