HP Introduces Industry's Most Comprehensive Asset-Management Software

HP AssetView Helps Companies Better Manage Their Technology Assets

PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA. APRIL 22, 1996

Hewlett-Packard Company today announced HP AssetView software, which helps
companies better manage their technology assets.

HP believes that HP AssetView software is the most comprehensive
asset-management product on the market. It stores up to 400 pieces of
information for a full range of technology assets -- including personal
computers, portable computers and other mobile equipment, workstations,
minicomputers, hubs, routers, printers and fax machines -- in Microsoft
Windows, Windows NT, MS-DOS, UNIX system, Macintosh and OS/2 environments.
For every personal computer, for example, HP AssetView software tracks
make, model, location, serial number, processor type, hard-drive capacity,
memory configuration, software licenses, lease information, maintenance
costs, warranty, service history, depreciation and other information.

HP AssetView software also is flexible. It lets information-technology
departments track assets by product type, manufacturer, geography,
building, subsidiary, sector, division, department and user.
Information-technology managers can define which reports they want and
when they want them. In addition, network administrators and help-desk
workers can access HP AssetView software on-line to get real-time
information, such as service history or network configuration.

The Asset-management Problem

Controlling costs and maximizing return on technology investments have
become more difficult in the distributed computing environment of the
1990s. Technology assets are now widely dispersed throughout the
enterprise, making them less visible and harder to track. Companies
without an asset-management solution are at a competitive disadvantage
because they likely spend more time and money purchasing, upgrading,
servicing and disposing of their technology equipment. Using the wealth of
information in HP AssetView software, companies can regain control over
their assets, optimize their information-technology investments, lower
costs and increase end-user productivity.

"HP AssetView lets you see what you have, who is using it, how it is
configured, what you paid for it and more," said Mandeep Khera, worldwide
operations manager for HP's Asset Management Operation. "When you can see
exactly what technology you have, you can decide how to streamline your
assets, make them work together and plan for future investments and
upgrades."

Today's introduction broadens the asset-management solutions HP offers. In
October 1994, the company announced HP Asset Management Services, which
let customers outsource their entire asset-management program to HP. Now,
with the introduction of HP AssetView software, customers also can build
and manage their own programs or combine HP AssetView with some HP Asset
Management Services.

HP AssetView software runs on an HP UNIX system workstation and is
available through HP's direct sales force. Pricing starts at $22,000 for a
one-user license and increases, depending on the number of concurrent
users. Prices include HP AssetView software, relational-database license,
report-writer license and 4GL license. Data-collection tools also can be
purchased separately.

HP offers a broad range of services to design, integrate, finance,
implement, operate, manage and maintain computing environments consisting
of multivendor hardware, software and networks. In 1995, HP generated $4.4
billion in service revenue. HP information technology service and support
programs are delivered by 17,500 professionals worldwide.

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) is a leading global manufacturer of
computing, communications and measurement products and services recognized
for excellence in quality and support. HP has 105, 200 employees and had
revenue of $31.5 billion in its 1995 fiscal year.
