HP Supplies InteropNet 100VG-AnyLAN Connection, Works With Other Networking
Vendors In Interoperability Demonstration

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA. APRIL 1, 1996

Hewlett-Packard Company, the leader in network systems for workgroups,
today announced that its 100VG-AnyLAN technology will be available to
exhibitors here at NetWorld+Interop through the InteropNet, the show's
production-scale enterprise network.

"100VG was selected to participate in the InteropNet because we wanted to
bring the leading high-speed contenders together, integrate them and deal
with the interoperability issues end users face," said Jim Martin, lead
network engineer for InteropNet. "Attendees and exhibitors can see new
technologies at work. Buyers can observe the equipment and technology to
evaluate performance, features and benefits. It's a valuable opportunity
and something we believe people are interested in."

HP is providing its AdvanceStack 100VG hubs for high-speed support, its
100VG SNMP Bridge modules to tie 10Base-T and 100VG LAN sections together
and its Router 650s with 100VG and FDDI interfaces to interconnect local
area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) sections.

"HP is excited to have this opportunity to work with other networking
companies to supply fully interoperable 100VG connections for exhibitors
at NetWorld+Interop," said Gary McAnally, general manager for HP's
Roseville (Calif.) Networks Division. "We are participating in the
InteropNet, providing a high-performance 100VG solution in support of open
industry standards and to educate people about 100VG."

100VG is designed for emerging workgroup applications, such as desktop
video conferencing, color network printing, collaborative computing and
multimedia and other large, data-intensive workgroup applications, as well
as for improving the performance of existing applications.

The 100VG-AnyLAN IEEE-approved standard (802.12) was developed
cooperatively by AT&T, HP and IBM. The first product began shipping in
August 1994.

What is the InteropNet?

The 6,000-node InteropNet consists of 130 miles of cable and 4,000 pieces
of equipment valued at more than $15 million. The equipment is donated by
companies through the InteropNet Contributors Program. The InteropNet is
designed, implemented and operated by members of the Network Operations
Center (NOC) team, which is composed of volunteer top experts from the
industry, government and academic sectors of the networking industry.

Experiencing the InteropNet

Attendees can take self-guided InteropNet tours, or there are free guided
tours conducted hourly by members of the NOC team. Tours begin in the Las
Vegas Convention Center lobby. In addition, a free "Introduction to the
InteropNet" class is offered. Attendees can view the NOC in action in the
convention center lobby and participate in the adjoining InteropNet
theater. The InteropNet can be used to access the Internet in the Novell
Connecting Points located throughout the LVCC.
