Gateway 2000 announces 133 MHz Pentium Processor Multimedia Notebook

Award-winning Solo line standardizes CD-ROM technology

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., APRIL 22, 1996 -- Gateway 2000 today announced they
will begin sales of the fastest Intel CPU available for portable PC's. The
133MHz Pentium processor will be the latest addition to the award-winning
Gateway 2000 Solo notebook line-up. The Solo and all forthcoming portable
products from Gateway 2000 will feature the latest in CD-ROM technology as
a standard component.

Gateway 2000 will also increase the scope of the mid-range portable class
by introducing the 100MHz Pentium processor. Both the 100 and 133MHz
Pentium processor systems will feature a 66MHz bus, increasing the speed
of information transfer between peripheral interfaces and the system. The
release of these two processors will also be hallmarked by the offering of
an 11.3 inch SVGA TFT display. This provides users with a minimum 17
percent increase in viewable area over 10.4 inch displays. The Gateway
2000 Solo features the lowest weight in a multimedia notebook in the
industry, along with stereo speakers, the EZ Pad Pointing Device, a
lithium ion battery, Infra-red module and optional docking bar. The Solo
line of multimedia notebooks starts at $2899.00.

Bob Burnett, director of portable products said, "We fundamentally believe
that portable customers want multimedia functions all of the time. The
CD-ROM component has become more essential to the overall system than the
floppy disk drive. Most software and reference material is distributed on
CD, and the portable customer generally has the need for a system as
powerful and feature-packed as the desktop back at the office."

Also, coming soon to the Gateway 2000 portable products line-up is the 2GB
hard drive option. The 2GB is the largest drive available in a notebook.
The performance and functionality of the Solo make it a suitable
replacement for any desktop system, without sacrificing power and speed.
Burnett stated, "The success of the Gateway 2000 Solo clearly indicates we
are meeting the needs of the mobile customer. By enhancing the Solo's
feature set, we continually add value while recognizing the future of the
portable PC industry."
