Exide Electronics Introduces New Power Management Software Tools

Sets New Standards for Enterprise Power Management, Novell NDS and Windows
NT Support

Networld + Interop, Las Vegas, NV, APRIL 2, 1996 -- Exide Electronics
Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: XUPS), today announced a line-up of three new power
management products which further build on the capabilities of
award-winning OnliNet software. OnliNet Vista, OnliNet Centro and OnliNet
Basic are:

- first to offer network managers a cohesive enterprise-wide power
  management tool.
- first to utilize the powerful network information management
capabilities of Novell's NetWare Directory Services (NDS).
- available first for industry-leading Novell NetWare and Microsoft
  Windows NT environments.

The new OnliNet product family supports the widest range of uninterruptible
power systems (UPS) in the industry, used to protect applications from the
desktop (beginning at 400 VA) to the computer room (up to 150 kVA). With a
single software platform, systems administrators can monitor and control
all major UPS technologies, including on- line, line-interactive and
standby topologies from Exide Electronics and other leading UPS
manufacturers.

"By providing comprehensive power management, cross computer platform
compatibility and support of a wide range of UPSs, Exide Electronics is
the first to offer a consistent, fully integrated solution to meet
enterprise-wide needs," said Bill Raddi, Chief Technology Officer.
"OnliNet is pivotal to the implementation of our unique Strategic Power
Management solutions which offers customers the combined strength of a
variety of UPS technologies, products, services and strategic
partnerships."

FIRST POWER MONITORING SYSTEMS TO USE NETWARE DIRECTORY SERVICES

One of the initial releases of the new OnliNet product targets NetWare.
OnliNet uses the comprehensive information base provided by NDS for
discovery, information management and global configuration of UPS. OnliNet
Vista also "snaps-in" to both ManageWise and NWAdmin allowing a system
manager to quickly launch the application.

"Exide Electronics is the first UPS provider to include support for NDS,"
said Jan Jentz, director of partner marketing for Novell, Inc. "Now
NetWare 4 users and systems administrators can globally manage their power
protection through the same NDS interfaces they use to manage all other
network resources, including servers, printers, users, applications and
other objects."

MANAGEABILITY VIA YOUR FAVORITE WEB BROWSER

The OnliNet NLM also can be remotely managed via the Web using NetBasics'
Network Management Extension (NMX) component from HiTecSoft Corporation. A
network administrator can easily monitor any Exide Electronics UPS, check
the status of parameters including power and battery and perform
diagnostics.

FIRST TO OFFER COMPREHENSIVE MANAGEMENT OF ENTERPRISE-WIDE POWER

While OnliNet Vista serves as the centralized control and monitoring
system, OnliNet Centro and OnliNet Basic provide varying levels of
notification and shutdown capabilities at each critical network node.
OnliNet Centro provides advanced levels of monitoring to optimize the
availability of high performance workstations, servers and other essential
devices on mixed UNIX and Novell networks. OnliNet Basic offers standard
monitoring and unattended shutdown capabilities for PCs, servers and
printers requiring less comprehensive monitoring. OnliNet Vista links and
reports information from OnliNet Centro, OnliNet Basic, and network
adapters for a single consistent approach to enterprise-wide power
management. The ability to centrally manage power to every device across
heterogeneous networks minimizes the growing demands on the time of
systems managers and pressures to operate more efficiently.

OnliNet Vista monitors all OnliNet Centro and OnliNet Basic products,
regardless of host operating system. It also has the ability to control
Exide Electronics' ConnectUPSTM network adapters and other manufacturer's
SNMP adapters which support the UPS Standard MIB (RFC 1628) for network-
wide communications. A system administrator can discover all existing
OnliNet software systems and SNMP adapters that reside on a wide area
network, eliminating the time needed to individually identify each node.
Real-time network monitoring is achieved through a network- wide summary
table or through individual monitoring features such as meters.

With OnliNet Vista, systems managers have the flexibility to simultaneously
configure such features as: shutdown parameters, notification methods,
battery test and scheduled shutdown for all systems on the network. A
graphical user interface makes it quick and easy to select any network UPS
and customize a range of user- programmable options. A centralized log
also simplifies the process of monitoring networkwide power events that
can be proactively managed for optimum system uptime.

FEATURES THAT FURTHER OPTIMIZE THE AVAILABILITY OF NETWORK DEVICES

OnliNet Centro protects valuable data in the event of an extended power
failure by providing a graceful, unattended shutdown of computer systems
locally and across a network. Interoperability across operating systems is
a standard feature, making the support of mixed networks easy. To save
even more time and energy costs, users can program shutdowns at regular
intervals or customize on an exception basis for up to one year in
advance.

A preemptive notification capability alerts a systems manager when
corrective action is needed via a user-selectable option such as a page,
email, SNMP trap, etc. Advanced monitoring, comprehensive event logs and
diagnostic capabilities help to identify and diagnose power problems.

OnliNet Basic provides cost-effective power management of desktop systems
and servers through unattended, graceful shutdown of the operating system
in the event of extended power failures. It includes the same methodology
as OnliNet Centro, permitting a consistent notification strategy which is
not limited to particular workstations or servers.

OnliNet Centro is designed for use with Exide Electronics' Powerware
Prestige and Plus on-line UPS and the company's new NetUPS
line-interactive UPS. Plans also call for the support of a broader set of
the industry's most popular UPS, including Deltec's PowerRite Max,
PowerRite Pro and PowerWorks RS and IPM's BalancedPower Advantage. OnliNet
Basic supports Exide Electronics' OneUPSR standby UPS and Deltec's
PowerRite Plus.

BROAD OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT AND COMPETITIVE PRICING

OnliNet will support thirteen major operating systems including UNIX and PC
platforms and can be purchased from leading distributors and value added
resellers. Products will be available late summer at package prices that
begin at less than $100.
