Efficient Networks, Inc. and Cisco Systems Reaffirm Commitment to
Interoperable ATM Solutions

Dallas, TX -- March 28, 1996

Efficient Networks, Inc. today announced its ongoing commitment to provide
users with standards-based, interoperable ATM solutions by reinforcing its
relationship with Cisco Systems for rigorous interoperability testing.

The two companies joined forces last November in a joint marketing,
interoperability and support relationship that allows the companies to
work together on interoperability issues as well a jointly market each
other's products to their respective customers.

Recent interoperability testing has taken place both within the Efficient
Networks testing labs as well as the University of New Hampshire test
site. Outside of the standards compliance-related industry events,
Efficient and Cisco work with strenuous test plans developed by both
companies to ensure not only interoperability, but superior performance in
an end-to-end solution.

"The adapter is a significant, active element in an ATM network," stated
Dave Chiswell, director of technical marketing for Efficient. "Unlike
passive legacy technologies in an endstation environment, ATM network
interface cards (NICs) are responsible for much of the implementation of
the standards relative to features like LAN emulation (LANE) and traffic
management. The switches are very dependent on the performance of the NIC
to demonstrate strong performance throughout the network; therefore,
interoperability is key."

The latest round of testing demonstrated adherence to ATM Forum
specifications including, UNI 3.0 signaling, LAN emulation v1.0, RFC
1577/1755 (classical IP over ATM) and much more. Products tested included
Efficient's SBus and PCI Bus 155 megabit per second adapters for both Sun
and Microsoft environments, Cisco LightStream ATM switches and Cisco 7000
series routers. In addition, testing was successfully completed between
Efficient's LAN emulation services product, Panama, and Cisco's 7000
router client.

"Efficient provides strong solutions in both SBus and PCI environments,"
stated Steve Pomeroy, ATM product manager for Cisco. "Our establishment of
strong partnerships with key ATM technology developers like Efficient
allows us to offer our customers a wide range of competitive,
interoperable end-to-end solutions."

To demonstrate the end-to-end solution of Efficient and Cisco products,
Efficient will conduct its demonstrations at Networld+Interop, Booth
#2298, utilizing the Cisco LightStream 100 ATM switch. LAN emulation demos
in both NT and Solaris environments, as well as numerous other ATM Forum
compliant specifications will be highlighted. In addition, Efficient will
be demonstrating its LAN emulation services package, Panama.
