DIAMOND MULTIMEDIA ANNOUNCES MICROSOFT DIRECTX OPTIMIZED DRIVERS FOR
DIAMOND EDGE 3D MULTIMEDIA ACCELERATORS

DIAMOND EDGE 3D FEATURES NEW VALUE-ADDED BUNDLE, LOWER PRICING

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 1, 1996 -- Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: DIMD) today announced the availability of enhanced drivers for
Microsoft's DirectDraw, DirectVideo, DirectInput and DirectSound standards
for its Diamond EDGE 3D line of multimedia accelerators. In addition, the
company announced lower pricing for the entire Diamond EDGE 3D product
line, which now features colorful new packaging and a game control pad in
every box.

Diamond's new optimized drivers for Microsoft's DirectX APIs are expected
to be available in early April, free of charge, through its BBS, FTP and
World Wide Web sites. Diamond plans to offer the drivers on the Diamond
EDGE 3D CD-ROM by the end of the month. Diamond will release drivers for
the Direct3D standard when it is finalized by Microsoft.

"Consumers of PC-based multimedia products need access to a wealth of
unique, exciting Windows 95 content," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and
CEO of NVIDIA Corp. "With complete support for all of the DirectX APIs,
NVIDIA and Diamond deliver accelerated, enhanced application performance
from a product that will remain a solid investment for our mutual
customers."

"Gamers have recognized the Diamond EDGE 3D as the ultimate accelerator for
Windows 95," said Craig Rush, product marketing manager for Diamond
Multimedia. "Now, with new lower pricing, easy-to-understand packaging and
free installation by select retailers, the Diamond EDGE 3D is poised to
become the Windows 95 accelerator of choice among a broader consumer
audience."

Diamond EDGE 3D is an integrated Windows 95 accelerator that offers
powerful acceleration for 2D graphics and 3D animation, plus full-screen
MPEG video playback, hardware wavetable audio, a digital gameport for
precision joystick control and support for two Sega Saturn compatible game
control pads for multi-player gaming. It is available in four models with
price/performance features targeted to a broad audience -- from PC gamers
to people looking for a robust, all-purpose Windows 95 accelerator.

Diamond has lowered the estimated retail price on all models of the Diamond
EDGE 3D by $50 and now offers a game control pad in the box. The Diamond
EDGE 3D 2120XL with 1MB of DRAM and the 2200XL with 2MB of DRAM are now
retailing for estimated retail prices of just $249 and $299, respectively.
The Diamond EDGE 3D 3240XL with 2MB of VRAM and the 3400XL with 4MB VRAM
now carry estimated retail prices of $429 and $599, respectively. The
Diamond EDGE 3D 2200XL, 3240XL and 3400XL are bundled with three hot
titles: Sega's Virtua Fighter Remix and Panzer Dragoon, and Papyrus'
NASCAR Racing; the Diamond EDGE 3D 2120XL includes Sega's Virtua Fighter
Remix and Panzer Dragoon.

Select retailers nationwide, including Computer City, are now offering free
installation of the Diamond EDGE 3D accelerator. In addition, Diamond has
just launched a bright new retail package design for its products with a
bold red stripe identifying the Diamond name and easier-to-read brand and
model information.
