DELL ANNOUNCES POWERHOUSE TECHNOLOGY COMBINATION

SDRAM, next-generation features make XPS P166s Dell's fastest Pentium
processor desktop

AUSTIN, TEXAS, APRIL 8, 1996 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL)
today introduced its fastest and most powerful desktop Pentium
processor-based system ever. New, performance-boosting features of the
Dell Dimension XPS P166s include synchronous dynamic random access memory
(SDRAM), next-generation DIMM memory sockets, the recently introduced
Intel 430VX Pentium processor chipset, integrated audio and a new
easy-access chassis design. Despite the high performance and wealth of new
features, the XPS P166s will come with the affordable prices that are a
hallmark of the Dell Dimension product family.

Dell will begin taking orders immediately for configurations of the Dell
Dimension XPS P166s starting at $3,799. Volume shipments of additional
configurations will begin early next month. Dell also announced that it
will offer two powerful new peripherals with the XPS P166s-- an 8X CD ROM
drive and a 2.5- gigabyte (GB) hard disk drive.

COMBINATION OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES DISTINGUISH NEW DELL PC

With today's announcement, Dell is offering a new, faster memory
architecture--SDRAM--on a desktop computer for the first time. Faster
performance in a computer's memory subsystem is essential to realize the
full benefits of increased processor speeds. Dell chose SDRAM to address
this need. SDRAM differs from its predecessor -- asynchronous memory,
which includes EDO memory -- in that it is capable of providing a
continuous flow of data to the system's processor. SDRAM does this by
feeding data at exactly the rate that the processor can handle it,
creating a continuous "stream" of data. Data streaming is particularly
valuable in application environments such as high-end multimedia, where it
can significantly boost performance. Conversely, asynchronous memory does
not provide a continuous stream of data, often leaving the processor idle
and reducing performance. Because of its performance benefits, SDRAM has
long been the memory technology of choice in workstation and high-end
engineering environments.

SDRAM is a next-generation memory technology because it is poised for use
with faster PC processors that are expected to be available in the future.
For example, SDRAM can transmit data at very high speeds -- 100-megahertz
(MHz) or more -- whereas the fastest PC processors today accept and
transmit data at 66MHz.

Additionally, Dell plans to use only SDRAM that conforms to the full set of
specifications set forth for SDRAM by the leading industry standards
committee for computer memory. This compares to a form of the memory that
has been labeled "SDRAM Lite" because it conforms only to a certain,
smaller set of the specifications for SDRAM.

Along with a new, high-performance memory architecture, the Dell Dimension
XPS P166s is equipped with next-generation memory technology called dual
in-line memory modules, or DIMMs. DIMMs provide a wider data path than
single in-line memory modules (SIMMs), the type of memory socket employed
in most current PCs. A single DIMM performs the same functions as two
SIMMs, increasing reliability by reducing the number of necessary
components.

Another new technology incorporated into the XPS P166s is the Intel 80430VX
chipset. Dell chose this chipset for its new flagship Dimension product
because the chipset offers benefits such as support for SDRAM and DIMMs.
Dell's internal performance analysis indicates that the XPS P166s with its
430VX chipset and SDRAM is the fastest single- processor Pentium system
the company has ever offered. Recognizing that most customers consider
sound an essential part of their system, Dell designed the XPS P166s with
an integrated Creative Labs Vibra 16 sound chip, one of the most popular
sound solutions in the industry. For customers who require higher-end
sound capabilities, Dell will offer a Creative Labs AWE 32-based upgrade
card.

Finally, the Dell Dimension XPS P166s is housed in a new chassis that
offers easier access to internal components through an improved layout,
more efficient cooling, and three 3.5-inch / two 5.25-inch external bays.

PRICING

The Dell Dimension XPS P166s is priced at $3,799 for a fully configured
system that includes 16-megabytes (MB) of SDRAM, 512- kilobytes (KB) of
pipeline burst cache, a 6X CD ROM drive, a 2.5GB hard disk drive, the
