DELL DISPUTES PRICE WAR CLAIM

NEW YORK, N.Y., APRIL 9, 1996 --The chairman and chief executive officer of
Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL) told securities analysts gathered
here today that the company's sales to corporate customers remain strong
and reports of "price wars" are exaggerated since prices for computer
systems are not coming down faster than component costs.

Michael S. Dell, chairman and chief executive officer of the world's
leading direct marketer of computer systems, said there have been dramatic
reductions recently in component costs such as memory. For example, prices
for memory, which represents up to one-fourth the overall cost of a
computer system, have fallen in some cases by as much as 50 percent over
the past few months.

"This is good news for customers of direct companies such as Dell that
build systems to customer order and thus do not maintain inventories of
finished goods for stocking on retail shelves," Mr. Dell said. "Because of
the efficiency of our direct model, customers can receive their new
computer systems with lower-priced components within just a few days,
rather than weeks or months."

He pointed out that the company's price declines have tightly tracked
component costs, and prices relative to key competitors are about where
they were a year ago. "Through our direct model, we have maintained prices
that are typically 5 percent to 20 percent below the prices of our major
competitors who sell computers through reseller and retail outlets," Mr.
Dell said.

"Stated another way, our direct model delivers the latest technologies to
our customers at very attractive prices," Mr. Dell added. "For instance,
we were among the first in the industry to provide customers with Pentium
processor-based computers, and we did it at 486 prices."

Mr. Dell said the company's direct approach should allow Dell to gain a
similar competitive edge as business customers transition to systems
utilizing Windows NT and Pentium Pro. "Based on what we are hearing
directly from our customers, we believe this upcoming transition will
combine with the current pricing environment to drive continued robust
growth in the business market for computer systems over the remainder of
the year."

He added that the Dell direct model is a good barometer of business demand,
since the company talks directly with more that 300,000 customers each
week and 90 percent of Dell's sales are to businesses and governments.

A Fortune 500 company, Dell Computer Corporation is the world's leading
direct marketer of computer systems and one of the largest computer system
manufacturers in the world, based on revenues of $5.3 billion for the past
four quarters.
