DELL LAUNCHES FASTEST GENERATION OF DELL LATITUDE NOTEBOOK PCs

Delivers 30 - 80% Performance Increase Without Compromising Battery Life
Drives Transition to Intel's Pentiumr Processors

AUSTIN, TX, APRIL 1, 1996 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL), the
world's leading direct marketer of computer systems, today introduced the
fastest and most powerful models ever of its award-winning Dell Latitude
XPi notebook computers. Powered by the recently launched 100MHz and 133MHz
low-voltage Intel Pentium processors, Dell's new Latitude XPi notebook PCs
offer customers outstanding graphics performance, integrated sound,
infrared wireless data transfer and an ergonomic optical trackball.
Performance gains of between 30 and 80 percent, compared with
like-configured 120MHz systems, were measured by Dell using the Winstone95
and WinBench95 benchmarks.

The Latitude XPi P133ST notebook PC with a 133MHz Intel Pentium processor,
8MB RAM, a 540MB hard drive, a brilliant 11.3" super VGA active-matrix
screen, a long-life intelligent lithium- ion battery and three-year
warranty is priced at $3,999. The Latitude XPi P100SD with Intel's 100MHz
Pentium processor, 8MB RAM, a 540MB hard drive, a 10.4" super VGA
dual-scan screen, a long-life intelligent lithiumion battery and a
three-year warranty is $2,999. The new systems are expected to be
available in the United States beginning in late April. A lightweight
external 4x CD-ROM is also available for $349.

The Dell Latitude XPi is designed to provide maximum dependability and
superior battery life for business customers who require network
connectivity and broad operating system support. It is ideal for
manipulating complex data, network file sharing, creating and delivering
audio-visual presentations and for remote e-mail access. The new systems
are backward compatible with Dell's existing docking solutions.

"Our build-to-order business model has enabled us to meet increased
corporate demand for Pentium processor-based notebook PCs and lead the
industry in this transition," said Eric Harslem, Dell's senior vice
president of Dell product group. "In the last year, sales of our Pentium
processor-based Dell Latitude XPi notebook PCs have reached more than 70
percent of total notebook PC sales. This new generation of notebook PCs
reflects our commitment to delivering relevant technology to our customers
while setting new price/performance standards."

FASTER PERFORMANCE

By combining powerful 100MHz and 133MHz Intel Pentium processors with a PCI
bus architecture, 256KB Level 2 cache and EDO memory, Dell has been able
to achieve among the highest performance levels ever for notebook PCs in
this category. *In testing by Dell using the Winstone 95 benchmark, Dell's
Latitude XPi P133ST performed 30 percent faster than the Dell Latitude XPi
P120ST with a similar configuration. In graphics performance testing using
the WinBench 95 benchmark, the Dell Latitude XPi P133ST performed more
than 80 percent faster than the Dell Latitude XPi P120ST.

SUPERIOR BATTERY LIFE AND OUTSTANDING GRAPHICS PERFORMANCE

"Final results from our initial tests of the Dell Latitude XPi P133ST
indicate this is the longest battery life that we have seen on a
Pentium-based, color notebook PC with a single battery," said Marc Abrams
at VeriTest, inc., an independent microcomputer product testing
laboratory. "The Dell Latitude XPi P100SD with a dual-scan screen
outlasted most other Pentium notebook PCs."

In independent tests, the Dell Latitude XPi P133ST delivered an average of
5 hours and 5 minutes of coast-to-coast Pentium processor productivity
from a single battery charge*. The Dell Latitude XPi P100SD delivered an
average of 4 hours and 38 minutes of battery life from a single battery
charge.

New models feature a PCI-based 128-bit NeoMagic video graphics accelerator
to deliver desktop-like performance for graphic-intensive applications and
support for MPEG applications. This increase in speed provides faster
video playback for multimedia applications or customers who download
online video clips off the Internet or internal Intranets.

INTEGRATED SOUND AND INFRARED CONNECTIVITY

A dual-ported speaker integrated beneath the ergonomic palm- rest in the
front of the notebook chassis delivers high-quality 16-bit sound to
customers. This innovative design enables customers to listen to audio or
video clips while the notebook is open or closed.

Dell has added infrared wireless technology to the new models. This enables
users to access networks and transfer files to and from IrDA-compliant
peripherals, such as printers, without the use of cables or adapters.

FUNCTIONALITY AND COMPATIBILITY

The connectivity and flexibility of these notebook PCs are ideal for
corporate office environments. Business customers can easily exchange the
removable hard drives and upgrade memory. Dell's existing Advanced Port
Replicator (APR), the existing Dell DeskDock solution and other key
accessories and components are all compatible with the new generation of
Latitude XPi notebook PCs.

Dell has also upgraded the existing trackball to an optical trackball which
provides smooth, reliable cursor control.
