DIGITAL ANNOUNCES REALIGNMENT OF TWO BUSINESS UNITS

MAYNARD, Mass., April 10, 1996 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced that its Digital Semiconductor Business Unit will move to the
company's Components Division and that its Storage Business Unit will
become part of its Systems Business Unit.

"These changes better align the company's business model with the
marketplace, enhance competitiveness and streamline our product
distribution," said Digital Chairman Robert B. Palmer.

The new alignment of Digital Semiconductor is designed to help the company
expand alliances and partnerships in the growing 64-bit computing
environment, Palmer said.

The move of the Storage Business Unit to the Systems Business Unit takes
advantage of the synergy between the two businesses. In addition, it
further leverages Digital's storage technology with respect to Very Large
Memory (VLM) architectures, as the company increases its leadership in the
market for large-scale servers, Palmer said.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computing to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's Intel and Alpha platforms, storage, networking,
software and services, together with industry- focused solutions from
