DIGITAL OPENS INDUSTRY'S FIRST ENTERPRISE SOLUTIONS CENTER FOR
WINDOWS-BASED SOLUTIONS

First of Planned Worldwide Centers from Microsoft/Digital Alliance for
Enterprise Computing

Provides Microsoft Windows-based Solutions for Multivendor Environments

BELLEVUE, WA -- April 9, 1996 -- Digital Equipment Corporation, as part of
the Microsoft/Digital Alliance for Enterprise Computing, today opened the
world's only center that supports companies deploying Windows NT and
BackOffice solutions in a multivendor environment. The new Enterprise
Solutions Center for Windows, located here, will be the expertise hub for
Windows NT support at industry and technology centers located around the
world.

The center provides the multivendor hardware and software environments
typically found in large IT installations. Available at the center are
experts in client/server computing and software applications from
Microsoft and partners. Real-world Scenarios

At the center, visitors can examine Windows-based applications working with
existing software applications in prototype IT environments. Visitors can
use these prototypes, or build custom hardware and software environments,
as starting points to test real-world scenarios for their business
applications. No other facility in the world offers this capability.

Companies deploying Windows NT and BackOffice solutions in a multivendor
environment now can gain the benefits of integrated consulting and
technology solutions at a single location. The center provides expertise
in networking, client/server systems management, the Internet, information
management, electronic messaging, and object-oriented application
development, in addition to several industry-focused Windows solution
prototypes. One-Stop Shopping

"More and more large IT installations are adding Windows NT to their
multivendor computing environments," said Vincenzo Damiani, vice president
and general manager of Digital's Accounts Business Unit. "This center will
give them the one-stop shopping they need to smoothly incorporate the
benefits of Microsoft Windows- and Windows NT-based applications that
support their business operations."

"The Center delivers the type of integrated technology and services that
enterprise customers require," said Bob McDowell, VP, Microsoft Enterprise
Relationships. "Our goal is to help customers meet the current and future
challenges of enterprise computing by providing a unique setting for
working out business problems with technology and consulting. Cutting-Edge
Competency

"This center is yet another example of concrete benefits from the
Microsoft/Digital Alliance for Enterprise Computing -- providing
cutting-edge competency from the Digital/Microsoft team for companies
using Microsoft solutions across their enterprises," said Robert Bismuth,
Digital's vice president of the Microsoft/Digital Alliance for Enterprise
Computing.

The Microsoft/Digital Alliance for Enterprise Computing (AEC) was initiated
in August 1995. The Alliance combines Digital's leading multivendor
support services and systems integration with Microsoft products and
services and Digital Alpha and Intel products, connectivity software, and
enterprise systems. The Alliance enables customers to deploy business
solutions on the Microsoft Windows and Windows NT operating systems with
assurance of integration into the most demanding multivendor business
environments.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computing to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's Intel and Alpha platforms, storage, networking,
software and services, together with industry- focused solutions from
business partners, help organizations compete and win in today's global
