DIGITAL AND NETSCAPE TO MARKET ELECTRONIC COMMERCE PRODUCTS

Digital to Expand its Internet Product Portfolio by Porting Netscape
Commercial Applications for Digital UNIX

NEW YORK (Internet & Electronic Commerce Conference), March 25, 1996 --
Digital Equipment Corporation today announced that it has signed an
agreement with Netscape Communications Corporation to port Netscape
Commercial Applications -- Netscape Publishing System, Netscape Merchant
System, and Netscape Community System -- to the Digital UNIX platform.
These Internet-based commercial applications allow companies to conduct
full-scale electronic commerce on the Internet.

Netscape Publishing System, Netscape Merchant System and Netscape Community
System are the first commercial applications to integrate high-volume
transaction processing, real-time data management, easy-to-use interfaces,
and encrypted communications. They help customers create sophisticated
on-line services and run large-scale business on the Internet.

The Digital Alpha System delivers a significant performance advantage over
other hardware platforms available today. Major commerce customers
understand that the performance of encryption and decryption is critical
to a successful scalable commerce solution. Digital's Alpha platform
executes a single decrypt from RSA's BSafe encryption algorithm many times
faster than any other processors on the market. When a single encrypted
transaction is processed tens of thousands of times, the price/performance
of the Alpha platform is significant.

"Netscape commercial application running on the Digital Alpha system
presents an ideal solution for any business looking to maximize
performance and security features on the Internet," said Rose Ann
Giordano, vice president of Digital's Internet Business Group. "As
Internet electronic commerce increases, organizations will be faced with
the challenge of servicing a rapidly growing number of customers.
Digital's Alpha system offers businesses an industrial-strength, scalable
solution that optimizes application performance as a company grows."

"Netscape Commercial Applications provide customers with high-performance
features that solve the key issues facing electronic commerce today such
as encryption and large-scale transaction processing," said Jim Sha,
Senior Vice President of New Ventures at Netscape. "We are excited to
further assist our customers with their performance needs by working with
Digital to offer Netscape Commercial Applications on Digital UNIX."

Internet AlphaServer Family for Digital UNIX

The Internet AlphaServer Family of integrated hardware/software packages
for Internet use includes: a choice of three Alpha systems with standard
configurations, and a set of CD ROMs that contain the Internet Alpha
Software Kit for Digital UNIX, a complete selection of public and
supported Internet applications.

Netscape Commercial Applications

Netscape Publishing System provides publishers who want to create
subscription-based online publications with a flexible, integrated
software solution for organizing, customizing and delivering text,
graphics, audio or video to Internet users.

manage virtual shopping malls online.

Netscape Community System gives organizations the ability to create and
foster virtual communities based on shared interests.

Netscape Commercial Applications for Digital UNIX are scheduled to be
available early Summer, 1996. Customers purchasing Netscape Commercial
Applications from Digital will receive product delivery from Netscape.
Specially trained representatives will assist customers with on-site
