CHEYENNE ANNOUNCES ON-LINE BACKUP OF MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER

Database Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server Joins Other Cheyenne
Exclusives to Provide Complete Protection for Microsoft BackOffice.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (April 2, 1996) - Cheyenne Software, Inc. (AMEX:CYE), the
leading provider of storage management software worldwide, announced today
the expansion of its Microsoft BackOffice support with a database agent
that provides "hot" back up of Microsoft Exchange Server. The agent,
combined with Cheyenne ARCserve for Windows NT, allows system
administrators to perform backup and restore operations while the
Microsoft Exchange Server is open and in use.

The ARCserve database agent acts as a liaison between ARCserve and the
active Microsoft Exchange Server to back up the directory and information
stores with integrity. ARCserve provides advanced scheduling capabilities,
as well as four backup methods allowing the administrator to create
customized backup strategies. These methods include two choices for full
backup -- with or without setting the archive bit; incremental backup; and
differential backup. In addition to single tape devices and tape
autochangers, ARCserve will support optical jukeboxes and copy to hard
disk drives.

Restoring Microsoft Exchange Server data is facilitated by ARCserve's
database, which graphically displays detailed session information so the
administrator can quickly and easily identify the desired data to restore.
Additionally, ARCserve allows the administrator to either erase or
preserve existing data. ARCserve also supports the selective restore of
both private and public information stores, and will allow the user to
direct the restore to a different server.

CHEYENNE'S BACKOFFICE STRATEGY

The database agent for Microsoft Exchange Server further enhances
Cheyenne's comprehensive support of Microsoft BackOffice, which began with
the debut of ARCserve for Windows NT in 1995. ARCserve, the first network
backup product granted the "Designed for Microsoft BackOffice" logo, was
also the first to perform backup as a Windows NT system service; deliver
full backup of NetWare servers (including Bindery and NDS) from Windows
NT; deliver on-line backup of Microsoft SQL Server; and incorporate virus
scanning during backup. ARCserve provides backup of Windows NT Servers and
Workstations, including local and remote registries.

The Database Agent for Microsoft SQL Server allows ARCserve to efficiently
back up and restore Microsoft SQL Server databases while they are active.
ARCserve backs up Microsoft Systems Management Server including all
configuration and security information and utilizes Systems Management
Server for distribution, installation, and license tracking. ARCserve's
database agent for Microsoft Exchange Server delivers on-line backup and
also integrates Microsoft Exchange Server features into ARCserve by
distributing ARCserve information through Microsoft Exchange Server.
Lastly, through Cheyenne's partnership with Boole and Babbage and its
Emprise Stage3 software, ARCserve will provide links through the Microsoft
SNA Server to provide reliable data transfer between the Windows NT
distributed environment and the mainframe. ARCserve also backs up the
configuration, security, and data stored on the SNA Server.
