TIME WARNER'S PATHFINDER, COMPUSERVE AND OPEN MARKET ANNOUNCE A
BREAKTHROUGH FOR THE INTERNET

Time Inc. To Launch Pathfinder Personal Edition With Open Market's Express
Software

CompuServe Will "Pay the Tolls" for Personal Edition and Express for Users
of All of its Services

NEW YORK, NY, April 11, 1996 -- A unique combination of material produced
exclusively for the Web and technology designed to make it easily
accessible will create a revolutionary new model for linking an online
service and the Internet was announced today by Time Warner's Pathfinder,
CompuServe Incorporated and Open Market Inc.

Time Inc. New Media is announcing a key feature of its first paid offering
on the Internet. Pathfinder Personal Edition, scheduled for release this
summer, will include a personalized news and information service that will
draw upon the wide variety of material produced by Time Inc. publications.
Pathfinder Personal Edition will let subscribers create custom online
magazines tailored to meet individual interests.

CompuServe is expanding its relationship with Time Warner by eliminating
the complexity and cost of accessing Internet content for all of its
users. While Pathfinder Personal Edition will carry a standard
subscription charge, customers of CompuServe's online offerings, including
the CompuServe Information Service, WOW! and SPRYNET will have the fee
paid in advance by CompuServe Incorporated. This will allow CompuServe
users to access Pathfinder Personal Edition at no additional charge.

Pathfinder is taking this innovative consumer product one step further by
combining it with OMExpress from Open Market. Express is software that
manages fast and convenient web access from the desktop of a computer.
Users simply program Express to fetch material from a Web site whenever
they want it and Express delivers it automatically. Once the material
arrives it is available instantly on a user's computer, shattering the
Web's speed barrier.

CompuServe will license this package that includes Pathfinder Personal
Edition and Express and make it available this year. The combination of
creating a premium service within Pathfinder, offering cutting-edge
technology to speed up and personalize access to Internet content, and
partnering with CompuServe to offer exclusive toll-free access creates an
entirely new business model for the Internet. It also redefines the
relationship between the Internet and the commercial online service. And
it greatly enhances the ability of the growing consumer segment of the
online market to make sense of it all.

"When we launched Pathfinder a little more than 18 months ago," explained
Paul Sagan, President and Editor of New Media at Time Inc., "we set out to
find innovative ways of bringing news and information to an audience on
the Internet. This alliance with CompuServe and Open Market completes that
journey. The Web is about bringing people the material they want when they
want it. Pathfinder Personal Edition pulls the content together, Express
gets it to them quickly, and CompuServe will make it available to millions
of online subscribers almost immediately."

"This relationship makes the full suite of CompuServe online services --
CompuServe, WOW! and SPRYNET -- the best value in the online and Internet
marketplace," said Bob Massey, CompuServe President and Chief Executive
Officer. "As quality Internet content begins carrying a subscription fee,
CompuServe can add value and simplicity by paying the tolls and offering
the deepest, broadest content to those who use any of our three
services."

"We believe that bundling Express with Time Warner's Pathfinder site is a
perfect match," said Gary Eichhorn, CEO of Open Market. "Combining
Express's powerful features to search and retrieve with the valuable
content on the Pathfinder site truly leverages the power of the Web by
giving frequent Web users exactly what they are looking for. We are also
very pleased that CompuServe subscribers will be able to benefit from this
arrangement."
