Cirrus Logic Announces Support for Intel's Accelerated Graphics Port

New Port Addresses Emerging 3D and Videoconferencing Performance Issues

WINHEC, SAN JOSE, CALIF., APRIL 2, 1996 -- Cirrus Logic Inc. (NASDAQ: CRUS)
today announced support for Intel Corporation's Accelerated Graphics Port,
a high-performance graphics port that will provide future graphics
controllers with a high-bandwidth, low-latency connection to the system
memory. Having worked closely with Intel on the Accelerated Graphics Port,
Cirrus Logic is well positioned to support the new technology in future
products optimized to bring high-performance 3D and videoconferencing to
the mainstream PC market during 1997.

As announced by Intel today, the Accelerated Graphics Port will provide a
significantly higher-speed bus that will facilitate moving data back and
forth between the host memory and frame buffer memory. These high-speed
transfers will allow the use of main memory for z-buffering, alpha
blending, texturing and other image data processing functions in the
system, reducing the amount of additional graphics memory that might be
required.

"We have been working very closely with Intel on this Accelerated Graphics
Port because it maps directly into Cirrus Logic's multimedia strategy:
bringing high-performance video/graphics products to the mainstream
market," said Douglas Bartek, president of Cirrus Logic's Visual & Systems
Interface company. "By utilizing the Accelerated Graphics Port, we believe
the cost of implementing 3D graphics or videoconferencing subsystems will
be significantly reduced, fueling the market for these new capabilities in
1997."
