Category: Action/Strategy
Format and Suggested Retail Price: Sony PlayStation - $66.95

SUNNYVALE. Calif. -- April 1. 1996 -- Resident Evil one of the single most
anticipated games of the year released Friday for the Sony PlayStation.
Defying comparison, Resident Evil is a combination of action, horror,
role-playing, and strategy, that will make even the most jaded gamer's jaw
drop. Resident Evil has been rated "M" for mature audiences by the
Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). It is available at a suggested
retail price of $66.95.

"I'm ecstatic to say that we have a mega hit on our hands," said Greg
Ballard, president of Capcom Entertainment. "The initial shipment of
Resident Evil has already exceeded Street Fighter Alpha, currently the
number one title in America, in life-to-date shipments. We knew this was
going to be a big title for Capcom because of the tremendous interest it
has generated from the trade. press and consumer. Let me be the first to
say it: Resident Evil is going to be Video Game of the Year."

In Resident Evil you control either Chris Redfield. the slacker pilot and
sharpshooter: or Jill Valentine. the tough demolition's expert. of
S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Squad), sent in to investigate your
fellow teammates' helicopter crash. Once at the crash site, however,
you're quickly chased into a nearby foreboding mansion by a pack of
monstrous creatures. Inside, you become separated from your squad, and are
forced to puzzle out the mysteries on your own as you search for your
missing compatriots. This house is filled with acid-spitting zombies,
giant spiders, horrid frog-like creatures, mutant dogs and a host of other
tricks and traps guaranteed to make you sweat and beg for more.

Stretching the capabilities of the Sony 32-bit processor to the fullest.
Resident Evil fuses the cutting edge, futuristic polygon power of the
PlayStation with good old fashioned gothic horror. The 3D rendered
characters are placed into a pre-rendered environment, which allows the
PlayStation processor to effortlessly create a sense of the depth that is
lacking in most games. The first time a Cerebus crashes through a window
vou will drop your controller.
