CADIS Introduces Web Solution for Parts Management

Company's Krakatoa Web product enables enterprise-wide intranet access to
CADIS-PMX parts data

April 22, 1996, BOULDER, Colo.-CADIS, the world's leading supplier of parts
management solutions for discrete manufacturers, today announced Krakatoa
for PMX, a major enhancement to its CADIS-PMX (Parts Management eXpert)
product line. CADIS-PMX is an object-oriented, client/server software
solution used by large discrete manufacturers to provide rapid, intuitive
access to parts information used in product design. Krakatoa for PMX
allows these companies to take advantage of Internet Web browser
technology to provide lower cost, and more easily administered,
enterprise-wide access to their parts information.

The dramatic rise in the use of the World Wide Web as an intranet network
is a direct result of the ability of standard Web browsers to present data
on any Web-enabled client, with little or no system administration
required for each client. Recent surveys indicate a surge of interest in
the Web for these intranet applications, citing over 70% of Web browser
sales as large corporate installations for intranet access. "Virtually all
of our customers have implemented, or are seriously considering the use of
the Web as an internal network to span their enterprise," said Venkat
Mohan, CADIS president and COO. "Krakatoa for PMX provides a powerful new
set of capabilities, enabling our customers to make CADIS-PMX available to
anyone within the corporation that deals with or makes decisions about
parts, regardless of where they are located or what type of workstation
they have."

Krakatoa for PMX is built with SUN Microsystems' new Web programming
language Java, as well as HTMLFrames and JavaScript from Netscape. Cited
as one of the first major commercial applications of Java, Krakatoa allows
end users with either Java or HTML-enabled browsers to access the PMX
knowledge base, navigate through the parts classification schema and apply
any related attributes to find parts data in seconds, linking to part
drawings or documentation via URL tags.

"We've created what many have a called a 'breakthrough' with our use of
Java and JavaScript in Krakatoa to create a working client/server
architecture on the Web," says Chris Beall, CADIS chief technology
officer. "As browser technology matures, we will continue to enhance
Krakatoa for PMX with features now found in the CADIS-PMX client/server
product, as well as new capabilities made possible by the technology."

Krakatoa for PMX is available immediately, with a list price of $99, 500
for an unlimited user access license.
