BORLAND ANNOUNCES PARADOX 7 FOR WINDOWS 3.1 & WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS

DESKTOP DATABASE "PRODUCT OF THE YEAR" BRINGS UNMATCHED EASE-OF-USE TO
16-BIT WINDOWS

DB/EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO -- April 16, 1996 -- Borland International Inc.
today announced a new 16-bit version of Paradox 7 for Windows 3.1 and
Windows for Workgroups. The new database is designed to help organizations
manage their migration to 32-bit Windows platforms by providing a natural
compatibility with Borland's award-winning Paradox 7 for Windows 95 &
Windows NT, which shipped in December. Today's announcement was made at a
special meeting of BAPALS and other Northern California Paradox user
groups in conjunction with the DB/Expo tradeshow being held here this
week.

"Unlike our competition, we have not forgotten about 16-bit Windows users.
We know that organizations of all sizes are going to be using a mixture of
Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows NT for the foreseeable future," said
Richard Gorman, vice president of marketing for Borland's desktop and LAN
products group. "This new Paradox 7 gives these users easy database
management and the ability to share data and applications with others --
whichever Windows platform they use."

"It is obvious that Borland has taken great care to provide a safe and easy
migration path for its Paradox customers," said Greg Salcedo, president of
Para/matrix, a nationwide database consulting firm based in Seattle. "The
Paradox 7 cross-platform solution allows both our small and Fortune 500
clients to be able to plan for costly hardware and software upgrades --
without having to sacrifice the latest in database power and ease-of-use.
Paradox 7 is the ideal choice for developing multi-user database
applications across 16-and 32-bit Windows."

ABOUT PARADOX 7 FOR WINDOWS 3.1 & WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS

Paradox 7 for Windows 3.1 & Windows for Workgroups shares much more than
compatibility with its 32-bit namesake. The new Paradox offers the similar
levels of ease-of-use, speed, and office suite integration that earned
Paradox 7 for Windows 95 & Windows NT InfoWorld magazine's "Departmental
Database Product of the Year" award and a "Stellar Innovation" award from
Windows Sources magazine.

PARADOX 7: THE EASIEST TO USE DATABASE -- FOR WINDOWS 3.1 OR WINDOWS 95

With both Paradox 7 versions, common database tasks have been streamlined
-- so every user will be more productive immediately. From creating tables
and ready-to-use, customized applications, to performing mail merges and
making mailing labels, Paradox 7 has been enhanced with many new Experts
for greater ease of use.

EXPERTS FOR END USERS

Paradox 7 for Windows 3.1 & Windows for Workgroups includes all of the
end-user Experts that were introduced in the Windows 95 version to help
automate the most-common database tasks. With Paradox 7, it's easier to
save these Experts' work for repetitive jobs, such as a report that is run
every week. The new scrollable Expert control panel gives users easy
access to the database's end-user Experts:

* START-UP EXPERT -- provides first-time users with a way to get started
quickly and easily with Paradox 7, even if they have no previous database
experience.

* DATABASE EXPERT -- allows novice users to create ready-to-use database
applications, complete with tables, forms, and reports.

* TABLE EXPERT -- gives users guidance in creating common database table
structures and field definitions.

* MAIL MERGE EXPERT -- integrates with both Corel WordPerfect and Microsoft
Word, as well as the Paradox Report writer.

* GRAPH (OR CHART) EXPERT -- provides users with a step-by-step process for
creating graphical views of their data.

* TEXT IMPORT EXPERT -- fixed-length or delimited ASCII data can be
imported into database tables simply by answering this Expert's
questions.

* IMPROVED FORM, REPORT, AND MAILING LABEL EXPERTS -- these Experts have
been enhanced to be even easier and more powerful.

EXPERTS FOR BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN END USER, POWER USER, AND DEVELOPER

Ease-of-use for database development is also a major focus of both versions
of Paradox 7. Borland has added many productivity enhancements that allow
developers to quickly deliver the most advanced Windows 95 database
applications. These features are also designed to make it easier for less
sophisticated users to learn Paradox programming.

* THE BUTTON EXPERT -- generates buttons on forms that can perform common
database tasks, such as printing reports, inserting records, or opening a
form -- all without coding.

* THE TEXT EXPERT -- adds text to forms, including special effects like
auto-centering, flashing, shadowing, and rotating marquee effects. Just
like the Button Expert, all of this is done without coding -- just
point-and-click.

* THE FIELD EXPERT -- helps define and generate special field types on a
form, such as drop-down lists, edit boxes, check boxes and radio buttons.

* THE (APPLICATION) LAUNCHER EXPERT -- packages selected tables, forms,
reports and queries into a tabbed visual interface that allows users to
easily navigate through an application.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The new Paradox 7 requires a 386-based (or higher) personal computer
running Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups (3.11), with 6 megabytes of
RAM, and a hard disk with 25 megabytes of free space for full install.
Borland recommends 8 megabytes or more of RAM for best performance.
