Well-Connected Award For Second Year In A Row

Centillion 100 Token Ring Switch and OnSite Manager Products Also Win Top
Honors

Only Internetworking Vendor to Receive Three Well-Connected Awards

BILLERICA, Mass., April 10, 1996 -- Bay Networks, Inc. (NYSE: BAY) today
announced that its System 5000 hub has received Network Computing's 1996
Well-Connected Award as best enterprise hub for the second consecutive
year. The awards were announced at ceremonies held last week at the
NetWorld+Interop 96 Las Vegas trade show. In addition, Bay Networks'
Centillion 100 Token Ring switch was chosen as the best Token Ring switch;
and the company's OnSite Manager software was recognized as the best RMON
management platform. Bay Networks is the only internetworking vendor to
earn three Well-Connected product awards from Network Computing.

"We are honored that Network Computing, respected for its technical depth,
chose Bay Networks products as industry-leading, enterprise solutions in
three different categories," said Andy Ludwick, Bay Networks' President
and Chief Executive Officer. "These awards reinforce Bay Networks'
leadership position in enterprise internetworking, while emphasizing the
strategic role our products play in today's demanding networked
environments."

For the second consecutive year, Network Computing chose Bay Networks'
System 5000 switching hub as the best enterprise hub. In reviewing the
enterprise hub selections, Network Computing stated, "Continued
improvements to its top-of-the-line System 5000 switching hub have landed
Bay Networks in the proverbial catbird seat as winner for the second year
running. This year has seen the addition of ATM to the switching hub, and
it continues to be a great system for one-stop connectivity."
Additionally, Bay Networks' System 5000AH received a Well-Connected
honorable mention in the best enterprise ATM switch category.

Demonstrating its leadership position in the internetworking market, Bay
Networks has shipped twenty-five million nodes, or network connections,
through its hubs, and two million ports through the System 5000.

Token Ring and RMON Management Awards

In selecting Bay Networks' Centillion 100 Token Ring Switch as the best
Token Ring switch, Network Computing reported, "The Centillion 100 Token
Ring Switch is a flexible box that does ATM, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and
Token Ring switching. Add solid performance to that flexibility and you
come up with a Well-Connected Token Ring switch."

Bay Networks' Centillion 100 holds a leadership position in the worldwide
Token Ring switching market. According to a recent study conducted by
market research firm Dataquest, Inc., Bay Networks' Centillion 100 Token
Ring switch captured 55 percent worldwide market share for port shipments
in the second half of 1995.

Recognizing Bay Networks' OnSite Manager software as the best RMON
management platform, Network Computing added, "Whether you are surveying
the network from 30,000 feet or capturing a session between network nodes,
you are never more than a couple of mouse clicks away. No matter the view
needed, OnSite (Manager) gets the perspective." Through its recent
acquisition of Armon Networking Limited, Bay Networks has added the OnSite
product line to its family of internetworking and management products.
OnSite includes single and multi-segment RISC-based probes for Ethernet,
Token Ring and FDDI networks, and graphical management platforms that
integrate with SunNet Manager, HP Openview and IBM NetView/6000. All
products are based on the SNMP and RMON Remote Monitoring standards.

In addition, other Bay Networks products earned Well-Connected honorable
mentions. These products include: the Backbone Node (BN") router family in
the best enterprise router category, the Broadband Network Access Switch
in the best WAN product category, the Centillion 100 in the best workgroup
ATM switch category, and the Xylogics Remote Annex 4000 in the best access
system category.

The winners of the Second Annual Well-Connected Awards were recognized for
excellence in technology design and innovation, providing cost-effective,
scalable and completely integrated solutions for enterprise networks.
Network Computing's team of technology experts, including editors and
regular contributors, reviewed and tested products in 45 different
categories ranging from messaging, remote access and operating systems to
