Bay Networks Provides Network Infrastructure For Interopnet at Networld +
Interop '96 Las Vegas

Delivers Equipment and Network Engineering to InteropNET -- Only Vendor
Awarded NetWorld+Interop's Diamond Contributor Status

BILLERICA, Mass., March 28, 1996 -- Bay Networks, Inc. (NYSE: BAY) today
announced that its multiprotocol routers, intelligent hubs, high-speed
switches, and network management products are providing the network
infrastructure for the InteropNET network on view at the three-day
NetWorld+Interop Las Vegas '96 Conference and Exhibition. In contributing
internetworking equipment to the high-speed local area and wide area
network, Bay Networks is the only vendor to have earned NetWorld+Interop's
Diamond Contributor status. Additionally, the company has provided two
senior engineers to the network operations center to assist in the
architecture design and deployment of the InteropNET.

As the largest portable architecture network in the world, the InteropNET
is designed by industry experts to reflect today's complex networks found
in the largest corporate enterprises. This massive production network
connects over 600 major networking exhibitors and supports local and
remote site connectivity, multiple media and protocols, as well as adopted
and emerging enterprise applications.

In addition to connecting networking vendors on the show floor, the
InteropNET provides multiple network connections to both the global
Internet and the Multicast backbone (Mbone) via PPP, as well as external
connectivity to local hotels hosting conference sessions, workshops and
tutorials.

Bay Networks' internetworking products support the entire exhibit and
conference area, delivering 100BASE-TX and 100BASE-FX Fast Ethernet, ATM
SONET OC3, FDDI, Ethernet, Token Ring, HSSI and synchronous connectivity,
while providing the infrastructure for several emerging technology
demonstrations, remote site network services and wide area connectivity.

"Exhibiting a range of networking solutions as well as stable and widely
installed technologies, InteropNET allows over 100 different vendors to
demonstrate their products' multiprotocol connectivity and multivendor
interoperability capabilities within a complex, multi-tiered, real-time
network," stated Robin Littlefield, Bay Networks' principal engineer on
the network operations center team. "Bay Networks' full suite of
high-speed routing and switching equipment and network management products
provide the InteropNET with a fully standardized, end-to-end total
solution while demonstrating our multivendor interoperability."

Supporting the show's dual ATM and FDDI backbone networks, Bay Networks has
installed 7 Backbone Concentrator Node (BCN) routers, 2 Backbone Link Node
(BLN) routers, and 2 Access Stack Node (ASN) routers throughout
InteropNET. The company also has deployed 6 LattisCell ATM switches, 8
System 5000 switching hubs, 8 Model 28115 100 Mbps LattisSwitches, 4 Model
28104 100 Mbps LattisSwitches, 5 Model 100BASE-T hubs, 15 Model 2814SA
Ethernet LattisHubs, 8 Model 2715SA LattisRing Token Ring concentrators,
and 8 EtherCell ATM edge devices.

Additionally, Bay Networks' network management applications have been
integrated into the show's network operations center. The company's
Optivity Internetwork 6.1 ATM Network Management application and ATM
Connection Management System are the core applications used for the
configuration and management of the Bay Networks network devices.

In compliance with industry-defined standards, InteropNET's protocols
include IP, IPX, and AppleTalk Phase 2. Routing protocols for IP include
BGP-4, OSPF and RIP, and NLSP and RIP for IPX. In addition, Bay Networks'
products support IP multicasting using IGMP/DVMRP for the InteropNET. Bay
Networks is also providing Virtual Network Routing functions with ATM
Forum LAN Emulation (LANE) technology, as well as IP over ATM (RFC 1577).

Bay Networks will be demonstrating its internetworking and management
solutions in booth #2204 at Interop Las Vegas, April 2-4, 1996.
