LAS VEGAS, Nev., April 2, 1996 -- Showcasing the exceptional
enterprise-wide internetworking achievements and capabilities of its
leading reseller partners during 1995, Bay Networks today announced the
winners of the Bay Networks Partners in Excellence Award Program. Of the
more than 75 entries submitted this year, a total of 6 Bay Networks
value-added reseller partners were awarded the Partners in Excellence
designation. The network designs were reviewed and awarded by an
independent panel of technology experts. The winning designs were selected
based on innovative networking technologies, significant operating
benefits and comprehensive sales and support achievements.

"This prestigious award recognizes excellence within the networking
industry and is given to Bay Networks' partners that best exemplify the
competitive use of value-added networking technologies in organizations
implementing enterprise internetworks," said Bay Networks President and
CEO Andy Ludwick. "Through their distinguished network designs, in-depth
internetworking expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction, the six
Partners in Excellence Award recipients reinforce Bay Networks' and its
partners' leadership position in today's highly competitive
internetworking environment."

The Partners in Excellence Award winning partners and customers are:

  Anixter Inc. / AG Communication Systems;
  Anixter Inc. / Frito-Lay, Inc.;
  SystemSource, Inc. / Circus Circus Enterprises;
  HI-TECH Connections / National Penn Bank;
  RealTech Systems / The New York Times;
  The Presidio Corporation / a large federal regulatory commission.

The winning partner designs were chosen by an independent Finalist Panel
comprised of industry market analysts and editors. Members included:

  Trudy Barker, Director of Networking Services at Dataquest, Inc.;
  John McConnell, President of McConnell Consulting, Inc.;
  Nick Lippis, President of Strategic Networks Consulting, Inc.;
  Tom Smith, Networks Editor at Computer Reseller News;
  David Brambert, Editor at Network VAR;
  Cassimir Medford, Networking Editor at VAR Business.

The winning designs are summarized as follows:

* Anixter Inc. / AG Communication Systems - Anixter (Skokie, IL) helped
deliver a total switched environment for AG Communication Systems,
providing 1,700 dedicated switched connections for the company's Arizona
facility and 650 connections at the Illinois- based campus via an ATM
backbone. Supporting software development, telco/central office call
simulation and engineering applications, the highly reliable network
infrastructure streamlines production by leveraging Ethernet switching,
ATM integration, LAN emulation and integrated network management
capabilities. This, together with the use of VLAN technologies, has
enabled AG Communication Systems to increase personnel productivity, while
enabling faster time to market for new products.

* Anixter Inc. / Frito-Lay, Inc. - Migrating from an SNA and VSAT network
environment, Anixter (Skokie, IL) partnered in the design and deployment
of a Frame Relay switched internetwork for Frito- Lay that provides
enhanced connectivity, reliability and interoperability for up to 250
distributed sites. Leveraging DLSw, ISDN and Frame Relay connectivity, the
new infrastructure supports the increased use of office automation,
financial, database and communication applications among users located
throughout the company's headquarters, multiple manufacturing facilities,
distribution centers and remote offices. This has enabled the company to
deliver higher levels of service than would otherwise have been
economically feasible.

* SystemSource, Inc. / Circus Circus Enterprises - SystemSource (Ridgeland,
MS) migrated Circus Circus' IBM mainframe-based network to an ATM backbone
to ensure continuous system connectivity, interoperability, bandwidth
capacity and integrated management among the multiple Circus Circus casino
and hotel properties nationwide. Leveraging ATM technology, SystemSource
helped provide Circus Circus with a networking infrastructure to support a
full realm of both back and front office multimedia applications and
communications facilities across the enterprise, while providing a
foundation for future expansion.

* HI-TECH Connections / National Penn Bank - National Penn Bank chose
HI-TECH Connections' (Reading, PA) design and implementation services to
migrate its PC-based environment to a scalable, high- performance
infrastructure to support and manage a 100 percent increase in headquarter
and remote site network connections. Integrating Token Ring switching,
backbone and remote site routers, enterprise concentrators and network
management tools, the upgraded infrastructure delivers mission-critical
banking applications, while eliminating traffic bottlenecks and congestion
on the corporate LAN, balancing network server workload and providing
comprehensive network management from a central location. The network has
enabled National Penn Bank to improve its customer service levels while
reducing costs.

* RealTech Systems / The New York Times - RealTech Systems (New York City,
NY) teamed with The New York Times to provide an ATM workgroup and
backbone architecture to support the projected 20 percent annual network
growth rate among The Times' 3,000 distributed users, while leveraging the
existing backbone to its full potential. Additionally, RealTech assisted
in implementing workgroup frame switching to facilitate re-segmentation,
node growth and newsroom relocations with minimal disruption and
protection for ongoing operations.

* The Presidio Corporation / a large federal regulatory commission -The
Presidio Corporation (Lanham, MD) provided a large federal regulatory
commission with a phased network design that introduces ATM and Token Ring
switching into the backbone for higher throughput performance. Increasing
available bandwidth among 700 distributed network users and resources, the
Presidio design also extends the ATM backbone to the agency's existing
FDDI environment and directly connects server resources to the ATM
backbone network. Additionally, the delivery of network management
capabilities to the agency's network resulted in significant operational
savings.

The winners were awarded the 1995 Partners in Excellence designation based
on the following criteria:

* Innovative Technical Solutions - by taking emerging technologies and
putting them to work today, these partners have introduced new
technological advancements or creatively applied key
technologies/products;

* Exceptional Operating Advantages - by improving their customers'
bottom-line through no-nonsense networking, these partners give end-users
a significant competitive advantage and increased profitability;

* Comprehensive Sales and Support Achievements - by addressing important
new applications or accounts, these partners have extended networking's
role into important new areas.
