Coordinate.com to Deliver Broad Set of Solutions Supporting LDAP Directory
Standard

Switchboard, StreetTalk and BeyondMail to Support LDAP By End of the Year

BURLINGTON, MASS. (APRIL 22, 1996) Coordinate.com, the Internet division of
Banyan Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:BNYN), announced today that it will support
the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) industry standard in its
StreetTalk, Switchboard, and BeyondMail for SMTP products by the end of
1996.

LDAP, or Internet RFC 1777, is the dominant protocol for accessing online
directory services over TCP/IP. More than 35 vendors, including
Coordinate.com and Netscape Communications Corporation, jointly announced
their commitment to LDAP in a separate release. Coordinate.com will
demonstrate its Internet offerings at the Electronic Messaging Association
conference in Anaheim April 28-30.

"By marrying LDAP-compliant directory services such as Switchboard and
StreetTalk with the address book and other directory functions of Netscape
Navigator and Netscape Directory Server software, millions of users can
now look up people on the Internet as easily as looking up people within
their own corporate departments," said Eric Hahn, senior vice president of
enterprise technologies at Netscape Communications Corp.

Customers will soon be able to select best-in-class client and server
applications from multiple vendors with the confidence that these
products, including StreetTalk, Switchboard, and BeyondMail, will
seamlessly interoperate with other LDAP-compliant offerings.

Both Coordinate.com and Banyans Enterprise Networking Division will support
the LDAP protocol across their directory and messaging product lines:,

STREETTALK. LDAP-compliant applications will be able to access StreetTalk's
robust directory capabilities and information about Banyans more than 4.5
million StreetTalk users. As a result of the widespread support for LDAP,
StreetTalk users will have a broader array of applications that can
leverage the directory's scalability, manageability and security. Banyans
StreetTalk, widely used by many of the world's largest enterprise
networking customers, will be LDAP compliant by December 1996.

StreetTalk integrated with Software.com's Post.Office. Also announced
today, Coordinate.com is licensing StreetTalk to Software.com for
integration into its popular Post.Office Internet mail server software.
The resulting product will support the LDAP protocol later this year.

SWITCHBOARD. The nation's largest and fastest Internet-based directory with
more than 100 million residential and business listings, Switchboard is a
free service available today to anyone with an Internet browser. LDAP
support will enable Switchboard to act as the largest address book for
users of LDAP-compliant applications. Switchboard will be compliant with
LDAP in Q4 1996.

BEYONDMAIL. This powerful e-mail software will let users view the world
through its multi-tiered address book. New address book features to ship
in 1996 will include access to the entire Internet-based Switchboard
directory service, StreetTalk integrated with Post.Office, and other
LDAP-compliant directory listings. BeyondMail for SMTP already supports
LDAP through third-party solutions.

"LDAP represents a real break-through for intranet messaging because it
provides a highly reliable and widely accepted standard for directory
services," said John Paul, senior vice president of Coordinate.com. "Users
can count on new products that build on our strengths and that fully
support other companies' emerging LDAP products. "
