AUTOCAD SALES SIGNIFICANTLY OVERSHADOW COMPETITION

San Rafael, California - April 22, 1996 - Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK)
announced that it sold more seats of AutoCAD software in one year* than
the largest CAD software companies have sold in their entire history. In
addition, Autodesk noted that it has sold more than 1.4 million copies of
AutoCAD since the product was introduced in 1982, which is 7 times greater
than its nearest competitor.

Autodesk is also expanding the reach of its products through the de facto
standard design file format, .DWG. In 1993, Autodesk sold approximately
50,000 .DWG producing seats per quarter, through sales of AutoCAD
software. In FY 1996*, with strong sales of AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, and
AutoCAD OEM software, Autodesk sold more than 100, 000 .DWG-based seats
per quarter.

programming interfaces (APIs), the AutoCAD Runtime Extension (ARX), that
allows developers the ability to create fast and easy-to-use
