AUTODESK CHANGES STOCK SYMBOL TO REFLECT BROADENED SCOPE OF BUSINESS

NEW YORK, April 10, 1996 - Autodesk, Inc. announced today that it will
change its stock symbol on the NASDAQ stock exchange to ADSK from ACAD to
reflect an accelerated push beyond its flagship product, AutoCAD, into new
markets. The new symbol will be effective when the market opens on May 1,
1996.

"Autodesk was a pioneer in the design market 14 years ago, but today we
offer much more than a single-product for a single market," said Christine
Tsingos, Autodesk Vice President and Treasurer. "Our world of design now
ranges from architects and engineers to game developers, map makers and
film studios."

A year ago Autodesk re-focused its business into five market groups
including architecture, engineering, construction (AEC), mechanical
computer-aided design (MCAD), geographic information systems (GIS), data
management (DM) and multimedia, which is now a separate division known as
Kinetix. Nearly all these groups have launched, or will soon launch,
products that have been developed specifically for the customer needs of
their markets. The Autodesk Mechanical Desktop is currently shipping, 3D
Studio MAX is expected to ship this month, and AutoCAD Map is expected to
ship later this year. The data management group's document management and
workflow tool, Autodesk WorkCenter, has been shipping for more than a
year. Autodesk's Data Publishing unit has circulated 30,000 titles of the
Autodesk Mechanical Library to design professionals and 10,000 in
education.

Today Autodesk markets nearly two dozen software products for design and
document management. It is the fourth-largest PC software company in the
world, with over three million customers in 129 countries.
