ATTACHMATE DELIVERS NEW INTERNET HELP-LINE SERVICES

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Internet, But Didn't Know
Whom to Ask

BELLEVUE, WASH. -- Attachmate - The Intranet Company - today announced two
new Internet support services for first time and novice Internet users.
The first, the Corporate Internet HelpDesk, is a telephone consulting
service targeted at overburdened IS departments seeking technical
assistance for Internet and Intranet services. The second, Internet
Co-Pilot, is a telephone hot-line geared to newly connected Internet users
in the small office/home office (SO/HO) environment. Both services aim to
increase users' knowledge and enjoyment of the Internet, while providing
technical support and answering general questions about common Internet
problems. Now, with a simple telephone call, corporate and home customers
can receive help on everything from how to access the Internet, where to
find a specific Web site, or to how to send E-mail and download files and
software. Callers even receive Internet product installation help if
necessary, although specific problems with other vendor's Internet
hardware and software will be referred to that vendor's technical support
line.

"Attachmate's introduction of the Corporate Internet HelpDesk service is
very timely," said Jack Thomas, president and CEO of A1 Tile and Carpet.
"The Internet has quickly become the communication method of choice of our
larger customers and manufacturing mills. As our sales executives buy
browsers to respond to this change, they call our IS group for help. Most
of their questions are very general, but because of the volume and time it
takes to help each of them, the additional burden on our IS staff has
become overwhelming. Like many others, our IS department is short-handed
and working very hard at simply maintaining the systems we have in place.
We are very excited about partnering with Attachmate to give our people
the help they need while keeping our IS staff focused on more important
duties."

"The Internet HelpDesk and Co-Pilot services are a natural extension of
Attachmate's communications expertise," said John Schneider, vice
president of support products and services at Attachmate. "Attachmate
provides corporations with universal information access solutions that
link any computer system to both the Internet and corporate Intranets.
While many of our customers are power Internet users, there is still a
very large base of newly connected home and corporate users that need
assistance with Internet problems. A quick call to our Internet HelpDesk
can eliminate hours of paging through software manuals or thick Internet
books in search of a simple answer."

The Corporate Internet HelpDesk provides supplemental Internet support to
end-users in the corporate world. This complements Attachmate's tradition
of working closely with its customers in a consultative relationship.
"Most corporations do not have the time or resources to train hundreds of
novice users on the Internet, said Schneider. "By providing newly
connected Internet users with the assistance they need, Attachmate's
Corporate Internet HelpDesk allows a company's internal support staff to
focus on their core competencies rather than training new Internet
users."

The second service, Internet Co-Pilot, is a consulting hot-line aimed at
novice users in the small office and home office market. This service
gives users quick and easy help on general Internet problems and
information on how to take advantage of the Internet for business
purposes. In addition to answering specific Internet questions, these
services are a valuable resource for first time Internet users or even
people deciding whether or not to invest in Internet capabilities. The
Attachmate Internet hot-lines help users understand how the Internet
works, learn how they can benefit from using the Internet, and decide
which hardware and software solutions will best meet their Internet needs.
Attachmate's highly trained consultants provide non-biased, educational
and solution-oriented help.

For corporate users, Attachmate's newly formed Internet/Intranet Consulting
Practice provides expert advice on how to plan, build and implement
corporate-wide internal Intranets. Attachmate's new Intranet strategy,
unveiled in December, 1995, outlines a complete program for building
secure corporate Intranets. The company's five-step program includes a
variety of new products and services for building and maintaining secure,
internal, enterprise-wide Intranet systems. These products include:

* EMISSARY WORKGROUP WEB for complete Internet/Intranet Web conferencing,
browsing, publishing, searching, tracking and document management - can be
linked to any Web server or home page.

* EMISSARY HOST PUBLISHING SYSTEM for dynamically linking host applications
and data to Web pages or servers to enable organizations to build robust
Web applications readable by any browser.

* EMISSARY DESKTOP AND EMISSARY OFFICE offer TCP/IP solutions for users to
browse, organize and work with data wherever it resides, such as on a
local hard drive, a host system or the Internet.

* EMISSARY TCP SERVER, a scaleable, high-performance TCP/IP-to-SNA
internetworking solution for large enterprises that lets companies connect
thousands of TCP/IP users to their SNA hosts while providing centralized
administration and management functions.
