Apple Taps Cinebase Software as Key Partner in Building Digital Studios

LAS VEGAS, Nevada--April 15, 1996--Apple Computer, Inc. and Cinebase
Software, Inc. today announced their intention to bring the Cinebase
asset-management system to the Apple Macintosh platform. The Cinebase
product is the market leading asset-management application for motion
picture studios and post- production facilities. By bringing the Cinebase
application to the Macintosh platform, Apple and Cinebase Software intend
to provide studios with a more intuitive and easy-to-use method for
managing film and video content from the initial concept stage, through
production and distribution, and finally, archival and reuse. Major firms
including Warner Brothers Animation, Discovery Online and several others
have begun to implement Cinebase.

"The Apple-Cinebase announcement comes at a time of significant change in
'digital Hollywood' as studios seek to implement digital technologies,"
said Dr. David Nagel, Apple senior vice president for worldwide research
and development. "Asset-management, and specifically Cinebase, is a
cornerstone of our digital studio solution, and Apple and Cinebase have
already begun to work directly with film studios and post production
facilities to help them implement this transition."

Enabling customers to manage assets in multiplatform environments, Cinebase
fulfills a key requirement of digital studio production. "Our clients
simply demanded that we support the Macintosh because of its dominant
position as the desktop platform in the creative markets," said Alan
Brown, president of Cinebase Software. "Together, it is our experience,
Apple and Silicon Graphics control over 90% of the relevant markets."

Today's announcement builds on Apple's and Silicon Graphics' stated
intention to accelerate the development of digital studios for feature
film, animation and broadcast video through the support of Apple's
QuickTime and other technologies. These efforts aim to enable customers to
more easily create integrated digital studios using a combination of
technologies from Apple, Cinebase Software, Silicon Graphics and other
software and hardware developers.

"Products that increase work flow and enhance the production process
between platforms are key to digital asset-management," said Tim Sarnoff,
senior vice president of Warner Digital Studios. "As Warner Digital
expands, we are demanding connectivity across all platforms."

The Cinebase Macintosh asset-management system is expected to reach beyond
the film industry, design firms and advertising agencies that are racing
to embrace new multimedia and Internet technologies. As an example,
Cinebase software can maintain a dynamic Web site that currently would
overwhelm most systems.

Asset-management involves the production, archival, and distribution of
image and audio content. Cinebase ushers content through the various
phases of studio production. Along the way, the content is often modified
by geographically dispersed artists each using different software
applications running on different kinds of computers. Cinebase provides
each artist with access to the content in an application that is useful
for their specific task.

What is Cinebase?

Cinebase asset-management helps film studios deal with large amounts of
digital imagery and audio, using proprietary media processing engines
which recognize and convert file types and resolutions, Cinebase
categorizes and organizes content, film and video clips that can then be
retrieved via numerous search criteria and sent out to video decks or
other computers on the Net.

Cinebase distributes digital media over high-speed networks, including the
"next-generation" Intranet, which run over private fiber optic
infrastructures and cable modem-enabled networks. These networks provide a
significant increase in bandwidth which allows communication and
collaboration between physically- dispersed studio facilities and the wide
area distribution of broadcast quality film and video.

The new collaboration between Apple and Cinebase will involve cooperation
efforts to develop and implement new technologies, including optimizing
digital video for studio, Internet and Intranet environments. The
Macintosh version of Cinebase, which is expected to be released in the
third quarter of 1996, will support all of the Macintosh's advanced
features.
