Apple Demonstrates Macintosh Solutions From "Script to Screen" at NAB 1996

LAS VEGAS, Nevada--April 15, 1996--Apple Computer, Inc. today reaffirms its
commitment to the professional broadcast, television, multimedia, and
Internet industries by demonstrating its full Macintosh platform
production solutions at the NAB convention (National Association of
Broadcasters) in Las Vegas.

Apple's leading digital media technologies, coupled with cost- effective
solutions from third-party developers, provide customers with a complete
authoring to playback solution--from script to screen. The Macintosh
platform enables customers to develop demanding, complex projects and be
assured of consistent and cross-platform delivery to output in all media,
from broadcast to Web, from CD to print; in other words, develop once,
deliver everywhere.

QUICKTIME ENHANCEMENTS

Apple today announced further enhancements to its popular QuickTime
architecture that will be part of version 2.5, expected to ship later this
Spring. As part of these enhancements, Apple and leading digital video
solution vendors have agreed to a fully interchangeable M-JPEG file
format. Apple has implemented this new format in QuickTime, allowing video
professionals and editors to work with M-JPEG files independent of the
hardware solution originally used to capture the media. Other new
QuickTime enhancements also include support for multiprocessing hardware,
providing fast compression for real-time editing. Video editors can now
blast through frames with the speed and results which until now, were only
associated with proprietary systems. Apple has also enhanced QuickTime to
use Apple's QuickDraw 3D engine for rendering 3D objects in real-time
within a QuickTime movie. Now video professionals can synchronize
workstation-class 3D objects with other media types such as video, audio
and music.

APPLE HELPS BRING THE TOWER RECORDS WEB SITE TO LIFE

Apple and Tower Records have joined forces to develop Tower's new Web site.
Merging technology and music, the new Tower Web site
(http://towerrecords.com) will be launched May 1, 1996. The magic behind
the virtual reality experience of the site is Apple's QuickTime VR
technology. The visual experience of virtual reality is accomplished
through a seamless computer "stitching" of more than a dozen photographs
taken from a central focal point--such as the middle of a Tower store. The
images are then color matched and perfectly overlapped to create a
360-degree finished effect that appears to have been captured through
video. Web surfers will have the opportunity to visit Tower locations via
the Internet in Tokyo and Sacramento, and experience a panoramic view of
the stores.

While QuickTime VR provides the magic within the site, the Apple Network
Server provides the power to run the site. Designed to deliver new levels
of performance and reliability, the AIX-based operating system of the
Network Servers 500/132 and 700/150, provide the power and scalability
required to manage the distribution of large files across networks seven
days a week.

APPLE AND CINEBASE TO COLLABORATE ON FILM & VIDEO CONTENT MANAGEMENT

Apple and Cinebase Software, Inc. announced their intention to bring the
Cinebase asset-management technology system to the Macintosh platform.
Asset-management involves the production, archival, and distribution of
image and audio content. Cinebase ushers content through each phase of the
creation process, and allows users from multiple locations and
workstations to access and modify content. Cinebase asset-management
software addresses the complexities of dealing with large amounts of
digital media. The collaboration between Apple and Cinebase combines the
ease-of- use inherent in the Macintosh platform and the ease-of-access
provided by the Cinebase technology. The two companies plan to provide
studios with a more intuitive and easy-to-use method for managing film and
video content.

Apple and AP to Develop Next-Generation Newsroom Computer Systems Apple and
AP (Associated Press) have made public their intent to develop integrated
solutions to target next-generation newsroom automation solutions in the
broadcast news market. The agreement between Apple and AP involves joint
technology initiatives, as AP develops Mac OS-based products to target
this emerging market. The first AP Mac OS-based products are expected to
be available later this year and are currently being trialed at BBC
(British Broadcast Corporation) in London, England.

APPLE'S BOOTH

The Apple booth will showcase both Apple and third-party developer
solutions through the creation of an environment that reflects a complete
broadcast production facility--from script to screen. The booth will

broadcast design, independent production, Internet, and pre-visualization.
Apple will also demonstrate solutions for webcasters, webmasters, and
websurfers, illustrating the convergence of the broadcasting and computer
