Sears Helps Schools Earn Points Toward Computer Hardware and Software As
Part of Apple's "Bring Learning Home" Initiative

CUPERTINO, California--April 8, 1996--It's the modern twist to an old
American tradition: students giving apples to teachers.

At Sears Brand Central, from April 14 to June 20, when families purchase an
affordably priced Apple Macintosh Performa computer and printer bundle
specifically designed for home use, schools can earn points towards
computer hardware and software products from Apple.

This pilot program from Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Apple Computer, Inc. is
designed to help both parents and educators provide students, from
kindergarten through grade 12, with greater access to computer
technology--at home and at school.

"While both parents and educators would like to enhance children's learning
through greater access to computer technology, obviously, household and
school budgets are limited," said Chuck Cebuhar, Sears vice president of
home electronics. "This program helps make much- wanted computer equipment
affordable for both families and schools, and allows us to give something
back to the community."

When friends and families of students in any of the 50 states take
advantage of the Macintosh Performa 6116CD computer and Apple StyleWriter
1200 printer bundle (at Sears stores in the continental U.S. for
$1,299.88), they will also receive a "Bring Learning Home" coupon to
submit with proof of purchase to any public or private non-profit school.
(Limit two bundles per customer. Price may vary in Alaska and Hawaii.) The
coupons are redeemable by the school to Apple Computer, to exchange for
specially selected computer products ranging from a collection of
educational software to the Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600 PS printer.

"A school can submit just one coupon and receive AcademicEdge, a 10-pack
CD-ROM collection of educational software valued at $30," explained Dennis
Mull, director of sales for Apple's consumer division. "Or, a school
district might pool resources and submit 20 coupons to receive Apple's
Internet server solution, the Workgroup Server 6150/66--an ideal way to
link homes, schools and the local community through an Internet web site.
It's a solution valued at thousands of dollars."

Sears store managers will be working with local school administrators to
help educate them on the program designed to help schools earn points
toward computer hardware and software.

According to Chuck Cebuhar, "This program allows us to deliver a home
computer that can be as affordable as $25 per month using Sears credit,
while also helping to provide computer software and equipment to our
neighborhood schools." Cebuhar added, "When we work as a team, everyone
wins: students, families and schools."

Today, Apple personal computers represent more than 60 percent of the
installed base of computers in schools, kindergarten through grade 12, in
the United States--nearly three times that of any other brand. Apple
computers also run more educational software than any other personal
computer, and, Apple has the largest worldwide installed base of home
personal computers (source: International Data Corporation, 1995 Global
Home Market Survey).
