PARASCOPE LAUNCHES ON AMERICA ONLINE

Forum Dedicated to Uncovering Information on the Unexplained and
Paranormal

Vienna, VA, April 10, 1996 -- Something strange is happening. The
government has sealed off millions of acres of secret desert sites in
Nevada. A small group of people in New Mexico are plagued by a phantom
noise that only they can hear. Black helicopters are buzzing small towns
across America and the military isn't offering any explanations.
Government conspiracies? Alien encounters? Paranormal phenomena? What
exactly is going on?

America Online today announced the launch of ParaScope, a forum dedicated
investigating, researching and answering those mysteries, rumors,
incidents and ideas ignored or shunned by the mainstream media. Created by
a talented group of journalists, researchers and investigators, ParaScope
is the most comprehensive, up-to-date spot in cyberspace for information
on those topics that lie on the fringe of human understanding.

ParaScope is a service of The AOL Greenhouse (tm), a business unit of
America Online designed to assist "infopreneurs" in the creation of unique
online content and interactive services developed exclusively for the
online medium. ParaScope is available in Clubs & Interests on America
Online and at Keyword: ParaScope.

"There is nothing so frustrating in life as knowing something for sure but
not being able to prove it," said Ted Leonsis, President of America Online
Services Company. "ParaScope will change that. From the ParaScope Online
Intelligence Network to the Freedom of Information Act Self-Help Center,
ParaScope takes a serious and critical look at today's unexplained
phenomena."

ParaScope was founded by Ruffin Prevost and Charles Overbeck, who both
share a lifelong interest in the unexplained and unexplainable. The
founders met in college at the University of North Carolina, where they
edited the alternative campus magazine and received bachelor's degrees in
journalism.

"At ParaScope, we felt that there was a large and growing trend among the
public at large, in general, and a strong community of researchers and
theorists, in particular, to try and pool resources and find answers to a
number of pressing questions," said ParaScope founder Ruffin Prevost. "The
mainstream media has either ignored these issues or treated them with
derision, ridicule and undue skepticism. We feel that the online medium
offers the most open, interactive and dynamic forum for a resource like
ParaScope. At ParaScope we are convinced of one thing: something strange
is happening. And it's up to us and our members on America Online and the
Internet to get to the bottom of it."

Online Departments: ParaScope will have four major content categories that
are defined by popular fields of interest:

* NEBULA -- Covering the realm of UFOs and alien encounters, Nebula will be
the most comprehensive resource for ET enthusiasts. ParaScope will cover
every aspect of the UFO scene, from preposterous reports of little green
men to the possible involvement of the US Air Force in the development of
strange and secret propulsion systems.

* MATRIX -- Examining the hidden "story behind the story" in every aspect
of politics, current events and history, Matrix will search for the
undercurrents that define the visible surface. From the Kennedy
assassination to the mysterious Gulf War Sickness, from cigarette
advertising to fluoridated water, Matrix will work to uncover the hidden
agendas and shadow forces at work throughout history and up to the present
day.

* ENIGMA -- Delving into the strange and mysterious world of unexplained
phenomena, Enigma will paranormal events, ghosts, psychic incidents and
other mysteries. With a little luck and a lot of hard work, ParaScope will
finally find out what Bigfoot likes to eat, learn how the pyramids were
really made, uncover the mysterious forces of the Bermuda Triangle, dive
into the physics behind spontaneous human combustion and find out exactly
what happened to the lost city of Atlantis. If it's strange and
unexplained, expect to find it well covered in Enigma.

* DOSSIER -- Charting the true course of the unexplained is always
difficult, and nothing casts light on the dark shadows of mystery like
original, primary-source documents. Dossier will be an exhaustive
collection of documents, declassified reports and other materials
available for searching and downloading. Satellite photos, government
reports, company memos and other documents will make Dossier an invaluable
research tool.

On a daily basis, members can also find out what's hot and new in ParaScope
by clicking on "In the Viewscope." And the ParaScope "Index" provides an
alphabetical listing of stories that ParaScope is currently covering.

The online medium also allows ParaScope to engage in an unprecedented
degree of interactivity with its audience, which will include: POINT: The
ParaScope Online Intelligence Network , an extensive collection of news
and late-breaking information will serve as the first stop on the
information superhighway for people seeking the last word on what's
happening in the world of the strange and unexpected; FOIA Center: Freedom
of Information Act Self-Help Center, which will file Freedom of
Information Act requests on behalf of America Online members and in
response to popular demand; Mediopoly, which will challenge members to
cite instances of mainstream media bias, mis-representation, factual error
and general screw-ups; and The Grassy Knoll, ParaScope's chat area which
will offer members the opportunity to chat with each other and special
guests.

And coming soon:

* Hearsay -- A forum for members to post their own reviews of books,
movies, television shows and other items of interest to members.

* Eyewitness -- An interactive collection area where members can report
their own accounts of the strange and disturbing.

* The ParaPoll -- This regular feature will poll visitors to ParaScope
about key issues, often with a controversial slant. Are crop circles a
hoax? Did Vince Foster really commit suicide? Does pyramid power work?
