America Online Launches International Channel Showcasing Global Services
with Local Appeal

Vienna, VA, April 8, 1996 -- America Online today launched the
International Channel -- a new area designed to extend the AOL community
to its emerging global membership. This channel provides direct access to
all of AOL's recently launched services outside of the US and joins AOL's
numerous channels focused on special areas of interest to AOL members.

In the past six months, AOL Europe, a joint venture between America Online,
Inc. and Bertelsmann AG, Europe's largest media company, has launched
local AOL services in Germany, the United Kingdom and France. In addition,
America Online launched AOL Canada in January. Each service is offered in
the local language and features local content, news, chat, message boards,
and complete access to the US service along with each of the other
European services.

"This new channel promotes our vision of a global community by creating the
opportunity for the US members to interact with AOL members around the
world," said Jack Davies, President of AOL International. "We've remained
focused on creating services that are truly country-centric, so that US
members can get a real taste of each culture and meet their
cyber-neighbors at the click of a button."

The International Channel (keyword: International) will provide Windows
users with access to each of these international services as well as
internationally oriented content of interest to AOL's more than 5 million
US members. Initially, the channel will feature the entire AOL UK and AOL
Canada services plus highlights from France and Germany. Later this month,
members can also download a special Windows version of AOL in order to
access the entirety of the international AOL services and functionality.
Access via Macintosh will be available later this year.

The International Channel plans to host global events with notable
personalities from around the world, as well as develop original content
properties that appeal to a broad international audience. Current areas of
note include the UK's Digital Cities London, Edinburgh and Glasgow, where
travelers can explore restaurants, local entertainment, city guides, local
news, chat and integrated Web links; Canada's MuchMusic, the nation's
first national music television channel -- providing innovative and
participatory content; France's Paris Non Stop and La Tribune; and
Germany's "Owl" newspaper and Elfer soccer area.

AOL members who travel worldwide can now easily connect to AOL at
significant savings to other network alternatives through AOLGLOBALnet in
73 countries and 183 cities, many with 28.8 access speeds. AOLnet, with no
surcharge, is offered to AOL travelers to Canada in 18 major cities, and
in addition offers a modestly surcharged 800 number to access from remote
areas of Canada.

America Online, Inc., based in Vienna, Va., is the largest and fastest
growing provider of online services in the world with more than 5 million
subscribers. AOL offers its subscribers a wide variety of services
including electronic mail, conferencing, software, computing support,
interactive magazines and newspapers and online classes, as well as
affordable access to services of the Internet. AOL has a global workforce
consisting of 4,000 people. Founded in 1985, AOL has established strategic
alliances with dozens of companies, including Capital Cities/ABC, Viacom,
Bertelsmann, Hachette, IBM, Compaq and American Express.
