Adobe Premiere 4.2 for Windows 95 & Windows NT Now Available

Adobe Premiere 4.2 Movies Played Back in Real-Time from NAB '96 Web Site;
New Version Wins PC Graphics & Video PRIME TIME PRODUCTS of NAB Award

Mountain View, Calif. (April 24, 1996) (Nasdaq:ADBE)--Adobe Systems
Incorporated today announced the availability of Adobe Premiere 4.2 for
Windows, a new 32-bit version of the industry's leading non-linear desktop
editing application optimized for both Microsoft Windows 95 and
Intel-based CPUs running Windows NT 3.51.

"Adobe Premiere has always been a powerful, easy-to-use program," said
Andrew Hoffman, technical/multimedia specialist at Cognetics Corp., a
multimedia development company in Princeton, N.J. "The improved
performance and 32-bit architecture of Adobe Premiere 4.2 running under
Windows NT make professional video editing on the PC platform a compelling
solution."

The Adobe Premiere 4.2 Deluxe CD-ROM includes software from VDOnet Corp.
that allows users to create movies for real-time viewing over the Web
without downloading the files to their desktops. This process, referred to
as streaming video over the Internet, is made possible using VDOnet's VDO
Live codec and VDOLive Personal Server, software that enables users to
compress video clips in Adobe Premiere directly into VDOLive format for
playback over the Web on Windows 95/NT systems.

New Features

The Adobe Premiere 4.2 program's new 32-bit architecture and optimizations
in the program set new performance standards for non-linear desktop
editing software based on Microsoft's Video for Windows by providing up to
more than double the acceleration under either operating system. The
32-bit architecture enables Adobe Premiere to continue to provide
additional capabilities video professionals require for on-line quality
video on the desktop--capturing higher data rate video for improved image
quality and faster rendering.

Performance

The 32-bit architecture of Adobe Premiere 4.2 for Windows enables the
program to perform up to 2.5 times faster than Version 4.0, depending on
the hardware, when running under either Windows 95 or Windows NT. Users of
Adobe Premiere 4.2 can expect the best performance when running under NT,
as all of the video components in the operating system are 32 bit.Version
4.2 also leverages the Windows NT capabilities of multitasking with
support for background compiling of movies. The program's open, extensible
plug-in architecture lets Adobe Premiere take advantage of new
technologies, like ActiveMovie, Microsoft's revision of Video for Windows,
as they become available.

Windows 95 and Windows NT Support

Adobe Premiere 4.2 for Windows features an enhanced interface that supports
the look and feel of Windows 95 and Windows NT with such features as Long
File Names; Background Compiling; Right-Mouse Button Control of all
windows; Tool Tips, and an Uninstaller Utility.

Special Processing Features

New special processing features are designed to optimize playback from
CD-ROM or over the Internet, eliminating the many steps typically required
to prepare a movie for playback in low data rate environments. Users now
have more control over keyframes, cropping, filtering, batch movie-making
capabilities and other functions for creating cross-platform movies.
Special processing features include: Keyframe Control for designating
keyframes at regular intervals, and at edits or markers, in the
Con-structionWindow for cleaner playback and faster response rates during
interactivity; Batch Movie Maker for processing multiple movies in batch
mode, unattended; Frame Size Settings/Cropping for cropping frames
numerically or interactively to remove unwanted pixels from movie edges,
and Noise Reduction with Median and Gaussian Blur to soften edges and
reduce noise on lower data rates. Also include are the Gamma Correction
option to lighten or darken movies by changing brightness levels of the
middle-gray levels while leaving the black and white areas unaffected, and
enhanced support for Intel's Indeo Interactive provides bidirectional
prediction and lets users mask alpha channel transparency, resulting in
better picture quality at higher frame rates and resolution.

New Filters

The Camera View Filter lets users create all of the basic 3D effects with
clips that can be animated over time. Six controls are included: Azimuth
(side to side, or y-axis rotation), Latitude (top over bottom, or x-axis
rotation), Roll (z-axis rotation), focal length, distance and Winsize. The
Lens Distortion Filter lets users apply realistic lens distortions to
their clips and use extreme filter settings to simulate special effects
like zooming into a chrome ball or making a clip flow in from a corner of
the screen. Controls are included for Radial distortion (fish-eye-type
lens distortion); Decentering, and Thin Prism. All controls can be varied
over time to create limitless effects. The Audio Swap Filter allows users
to swap the Left and Right audio channels during playback. This is useful
for inverting clips with directional sound, such as footage of a train
passing by, or for correcting video captures with miswired left and right
audio capture channels. The Mosaic Filter divides the image into a grid of
squares and makes each square the average color of all the colors in the
square. Users can gradually increase or decrease the effect as the clip
plays by adjusting the Start and End controls in the filter's dialog box.
The Strobe Filter simulates a stroboscopic effect, or strobe light, by
hiding frames at a regular rate as the clip plays. Users set the
regularity of the effect by specifying the number of visible and hidden
frames and can create flashing titles or other special effects.

Additional New Features

New 8 kHz Audio support offers enhanced audio compression support for many
formats, including IBM ADPCM, TrueSpeech and CCITT, enabling users to
create movies in Adobe Premiere for streaming playback over the internet
using a codec such as VDOLive. New Menu Commands in the Edit Menu include
a new Razor at Edit Line command and The Clip Menu has "Mark In" and "Mark
Out" commands. 4K Output Support lets users specify output resolution of a
movie up to 4096x4096 (film resolution), as well as 32x32 for iconic
movies, which are useful for Web-browser movies.

Added Value

The Deluxe CD-ROM comes bundled with additional software from Adobe and
from third parties: Adobe Photoshop 3.0.5 LE for Windows; Crystal Flying
Fonts 3.0.1 LE for Windows, CrystalGraphics, Inc., a program for creating
and animating 3D titles and logos; VDOLive Personal Server software and
codec from VDONet Corp. for streaming video over the Web; ATM 3.0.2;
Acrobat Reader 2.1; Adobe Premiere 4.0a for Windows 3.1.

Earlier this month, Adobe Premiere 4.2 for Windows won a PC Graphics &
Video PRIME TIME PRODUCTS of NAB award and played a keyed role on the NAB
'96 Web site at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) annual
event held earlier this month in Las Vegas. Web movies of this year's NAB
show were produced on-site using Adobe Premiere and VDOnet Corp.'s video
streaming technology for playback from the NAB web site.
