Adobe After Effects 3.1 for Macintosh Now Available

Free Update Adds Plug-ins, File Format Support, More Robust Support for
DayStar GenesisMP

NAB, Las Vegas (April 15, 1996) (Nasdaq:ADBE) -- Adobe Systems Incorporated
today announced a free update to Adobe After Effects for Macintosh and
Power Macintosh, the award-winning compositing, animation and special
effects software application for film, broadcast video and multi-media
production. Adobe will be demonstrating After Effects this week at the
National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in booth #M3842 at the
Sands Hotel. The update is available on CD-ROM and will automatically be
mailed free to all registered users of Adobe After Effects 3.0 for
Macintosh. Adobe After Effects 3.1 provides more robust acceleration on
the DayStar Genesis MP workstation, offers support for new file formats,
adds plug-ins and finetunes functions throughout the application. Users
running Adobe After Effects on a Daystar MP workstation will see even
greater speed improve-ments in such areas as blending and plug-in
effects.

"Adobe After Effects makes the key difference between spending hours in a
$650-an-hour component digital production suite to create this motion
choreography, or coming in with a finished proejct at full, uncompressed,
D1 resolution that needs only to be transferred to the final videotape,"
said J.C. Burns, owner of John Christopher Burns Design, in Atlanta,
Georgia. "After Effects 3.1's multiproces-sing capability puts all four
PowerPC processors on my DayStar GenesisMP to workit simply chews through
frames, creating beautiful, subtle and controllable composites. Because of
its flexible, precise, well-thought-out-interface, it is my compositing
system of choice. Let me be clear: It's not just that now I can do these
composites on the Macintosh, it's that I prefer to do complex work in the
After Effects world, where there are few limits and incredible
possibilities."

New file format support for TIFF and Targa files makes it easier for users
to share files with other high-end platforms and applications. New
plug-ins include Unsharp Mask, Remove Color Matting and Write-on, which
creates the effect of animated handwriting. The Production Bundle features
the new Lightning plug-in, which uses sophisticated simulation to create
lightning and spark effects.
