Sonic Foundry, Inc. And Waves Ltd., Announce L1-Ultramaximizer Plug-in For
Sound Forge 3.0

Madison, WI --Sonic Foundry, Inc. and Waves Ltd., announced the arrival of
the long anticipated L1-Ultramaximizer developed by Waves for Sonic
Foundry's Sound Forge 3.0. This Windows version of the L1-Ultramaximizer
plug-in is based off the same working model which has gained notoriety on
the Macintosh platform. The L1 is designed for any application where
maximum level, quality, and peak control is required. The audio tool box
combines an advanced peak limiter, a level maximizer and a high
performance re-quantizer all in one powerful package.

The L1 incorporates an extremely transparent brick wall limiter, together
with full implementation of Increased Digital Resolution (IDR) dithering
technology. IDR combines noise-shaping and dithering to greatly reduce
non-linear distortions caused by quantization of higher bit resolution to
lower bit resolution audio. IDR offers optimal solutions for the most
demanding high quality mastering needs, as well as for the low resolution
audio used in multimedia. By using IDR technology with the Limiter, the
audio signal can be level-maximized first, then quantized optimally.
Processed 16-bit data can possess the perceived quality of a 19-bit
signal-- an 18dB improvement.

Features include:

Peak Control. Advanced look ahead peak limiting enables users to increase
sound file resolution and production master levels to world-class
standards.

Proprietary technology is used to control peaks with minimum audible effect
in the digital domain. Compensation for D/A conversion guarantees that
peaks are also fully controlled in the analog domain.

Dithering. With two dithering types and three noise-shaping curves, users
can attain optimal processing in a wide variety of applications and a wide
choice of source material;

Fast Overshoot-free Response. After setting the limiter threshold, Waves L1
allows the user to define the actual peak that the processed signal will
reach. Limiting and level rescaling becomes a one-step process.

Suggested Price $595.

Waves, a software company founded in 1988, specializes in signal processing
and user interfaces for the professional audio and multimedia markets. The
L1 Ultramaximizer is another addition to a full line of professional audio
and multimedia tools from Waves.

Sonic Foundry develops and markets the leading sound editing application on
the Windows platform. Their award winning audio editing application Sound
